Most people know about the fact that you'll be able to download NES, SNES, and N64 games on the Revolution - and play Gamecube games with the original discs.
From the GDC '06 show:
Iwata annouced that they'll also be offering Sega Genesis and TurboGrafx-16 games.
Flippin' sweet. :)

GDC 06: Revolution to play Genesis, TurboGrafx games
Next-gen Nintendo console's game-download service will span not just decades but former competitors' classic systems.
SAN JOSE, Calif.--Everything old is new again. You only have to look at the success of Xbox Live Arcade to know that while gamers are demanding the hottest graphics and the latest innovations from their next-gen hardware, they also relish the opportunity to travel down memory lane--and they're willing to pay for that chance.
Nintendo knows this. The company announced at E3 last year that its forthcoming Revolution would help scratch the nostalgic itch with a "virtual console" that will let users download and play potentially hundreds of games from the company's back catalog, spanning all of its older systems--the Nintendo 64, SNES, and the hallowed NES.
At its GDC keynote this morning, Nintendo unveiled plans to flesh out the Revolution's classic-game library even beyond its own storied library. Today during his keynote speech at the 2006 Game Developers Conference, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata announced that two former hardware rivals--Sega and Hudson--will make sizable chunks of their own back catalog available for download on the Revolution.
According to Nintendo, over 1,000 games for Sega's Genesis console, released in 1989, will be added to the Revolution's library. Joining them will be an undisclosed number of titles from the Hudson's TurboGrafx console, also released in 1989 and codeveloped by electronics giant NEC. Though no specific titles were mentioned, Nintendo said it is taking a "best of" approach in selecting which games will come to the Revolution.

Altered Beast? All of the Sonics? Toe Jam & Earl? All 3 Shinobi titles? Midnight Resistance? E-SWAT?
On the TG16 side -
Bonk. Military Madness. Devil's Crush. R-Type. Splatterhouse.
Good lord, I was already there...they just added more goodies into the mix. :)

That thing is sounding awesome...too bad I just got a PS2 for my treadmill, and of course a huge library of good stuff to catch up on along with it. Now playing: God of War, Sly Cooper 1. Yeah, I'm THAT behind.

Sega games have also been confirmed for X-Box Live Arcade...and things don't look good for Nintendo, considering the quote, "XBLA has seen some pretty serious deal-making in this first quarter - it's been a real priority," explained the source. "The deal-making has been a no-brainer for everyone we've spoken to and, aside from a few licensing issues with existing products, XBLA is going to smash Nintendo's Virtual Console to pieces." (originally taken from http://www.pro-g.co.uk/news/21-04-2006-2625.html) but really things haven't looked good for Nintendo since the Super Nintendo.

How? Sega Genesis had about 10 good games. Having that is going to make the difference?

A classic game library that's missing all nintendo games is like going to a medical library that only has books on feet—while useful, it's still missing a whole lot of books. Just read what the guy said,
aside from a few licensing issues with existing products, XBLA is going to smash Nintendo's Virtual Console to pieces.
he's OBVIOUSLY overcompensating.

i 100% agree with you infinitenothing. I am a xbox fan boy of sorts however, when someone talks about great classic consolue gaming, and leaves out nintendo, then I would say they have only listed, at most, 50% of the titles (when not listing anything from nintendo).

:stupid: Classic game libraries without Mario, Link, and Samus? It's like the NBA Hall of Fame without Bird, Magic, and Jordan.

Nintendo wants to give strapped moms ad college people an alternative to high prices. It'll be no more than $250 and as low as $100

Nintendo has named their newest console...Wii. That is terrible. The marketing campaign they're ramping up is basically aimed at those forced to live in assisted living facilities. All of this "Wii is all about all of us working together" crap is about 35 years too late to catch the hippie movement.

Because, it's not really about you or me.
It's about Wii.
And together, Wii will change everything.

I've heard tell they haven't trademarked Wii at all...which is really odd for Nintendo. I wonder if at E3, they'll say, "dude, you've been punked!"

just saw the live press conference online. i haven't been this excited for a game console since the original 8bit NES. the moment this thing is available for preorder, i am on it!!! zelda, metroid, and that super mario galaxy (i think it was called galaxy) look great. i can't wait..!
anyone else think nintendo has already won this latest console war?

No. I think a true gamer will also buy a PS3 or an XB360. Those two systems offer high res graphics for the games that need them. Sometimes you're in the mood for mind blowing realism and sometimes you're after raw fun.
I want that killer FPS game the showed.... with the guns and swords. The Wii controller is perfect for sword play or for shooting.

i agree, but the "true gamer" market is so exclusive. i think nintendo has got a real winner here appealing to the "non gamer." that's where the market is. that's where the industry can expand.
in any case, i know what i'm getting in november.
and can you imagine...if/when a star wars/jedi game comes out on the wii? force push...light saber fights... oh the humanity!
