I'm looking for a portable device that physically resembles a laptop but has no computer bits inside. Just a casing with an LCD monitor, keyboard, and "mouse", be it a built-in touchpad or port for an external one, with cables to connect it to a desktop PC. Anyone know of such a thing?

Sorry, I can't really help, but I'm curious. What kind of situation would this device be useful for?

Sorry, I can't really help, but I'm curious. What kind of situation would this device be useful for?I do a lot of rollout projects. A self-contained unit like this would be really useful when doing desktop after desktop at a client's site, especially if it had a KVM switch built in. Nice and portable, and I wouldn't have to rely on the customer to provide a (usually crappy) keyboard, mouse, and monitor.

I might end up building one myself, but I don't have any shop space atm.

There are lots of them, but all of them I've seen are rack mount:

Just google 'lcd kvm' for tons more. Let me know if you find one that's not a rack mount - that would be a handy device to have. I've been bugging Dell to see if they could do this on any of their laptops - make the VGA an input AND output port, so we could do exactly what you're describing.
