So in the last few days I've been looking at getting a PDA+phone mostly because I need the PDA but I don't want to carry another device (I have a tungsten C but I don't use it because of that). However, I've looked at a lot of devices and none of them have everything I need.
I need a device that has wifi, thumbboard, and a good calendar program. Push email is a nice thing, but I figure the wifi would help. Most important I need seemless outlook support.
I looked at the treo 650 which is almost perfect, but no push email or wifi.
The blackberries are nice, but they have no wifi and I'm not sure how good their calendar PIM is.
No other device really has all of my needs, but I may be missing something. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Have you looked at the T-mobile MDA or the I-mate K-Jam for GSM server. They also have the CDMA version...
The Pocket pc phone's got Quadband, Wifi, Edge, Camera Etc. Not sure about the Push mail. It runs WM5 and it works great with outlook.

Where's the CDMA version? I'm currently stuck with Verizon. I'm thinking about paying the fee and ditching them, but Verizon has the best coverage in my school. T-mobile doesn't get signal and cingular is mediocre at best.

I just got the sprint PPC6700 (got it for $150), the twin of the VX6700 and I really like it. While it doesn't have push, it has wifi/BT/EVDO, a much better KB, WM 5.0...etc. I am very satisfied with it and the general community surrounding it, lots of helpful utilities and such.
Outlook can be configured to check mail often, so I am not sure about the ultimate advantage of push mail.
Treo 650 won't give you access to the 3G networks (EVDO). If you want for the 700w (which I heard isn't that great),

the advantate of push is simplicity. with WM5.0/Pocket Outlook there is a major headache when it comes to email. Pockect Outlook has a "default" account which will sync with your desktop outlook. But, you cannot use that same account to check you email via pop3, you have to create a different account.
So, here's what happens. Say my email address is
[email protected] I sync my PDA with outlook in the morning. During the day while I'm out, I check my email via pop3. These emails are now stored in the "pop3" account on my pda, which will not sync back to outlook. So when I respond to one of them I have to copy myself if I want a copy of that email to be in outlook on my desktop.
It's a major flaw IMHO, but one that push email will be a solution for.
