When I saw the photo of her shoes next to the baby (who was SUPER CUTE BTW) I felt really bad for her..the shoes were so ragged and torn up in the back..I wonder what kind of life she leads..I think I'd rather be prednisone puffy than a paul bunyan.

World's tallest woman starts treatment in Shanghai. Yao Defen, believed to be the world's tallest woman, has begun treatment in a Shanghai hospital to rid her of a brain tumor at the root of her gigantism...
...She previously worked with a circus to support herself and her mother, and was only able to receive treatment after her story was broadcast internationally by the Discovery Channel.Glad to see that she is getting treatment.

Me too. Her only potential job has and will be being a sideshow freak. I know that has bad connotations, but, especially before modern medical treatments, being "freaks" was the only way that many people with deformities, extremes, etc., could get a job. Now that the P.T. Barnum style shows have been outlawed here due to perceived "exploitation," we've mainly, in effect, taken away any potential for income for many of these people.

John Merrick - the "Elephant Man" who had NF1 and toured with P.T.Barnum was pretty damn smart, actually wrote his own act, etc., and was happy to go on tour as he knew it was his way out of the London slave-like workhouses. Or Cheng and Eng - the original "Siamese Twins" - from North Carolina. Most of these people had a marketing gimmick and new how to market that gimmick - themselves.

The history of sideshow "Freaks" is actually pretty interesting.
