Hi Professor,

I am in your IT101 class on tuesdays and thursdays at 2. My girlfriend's
uncle suddenly died yesterday morning. The wake is tomorrow and I need to
be there for her so I will not be in class. I know this is my fourth
missed class, I hope you can understand that this is out of my control and
hopefully you will understand. I have already done the homework due for
tuesday and I know we are going to have a quiz tuesday so I would
appreciate it if I could take it thursday. I apologize for missing class
but I would regret not being with her much more then I would if i missed
class.

Thank You,
Zach Mic*****

Eh he left his mom's name there too.

Anyways, wow, I look forward to getting emails like that from my students.

Hey, you have to treat notes like this with sympathy. I know someone who had to take a few days off work because his grandmother died. What is really unfortunate is that she died four more times in the next couple of years.

That's gotta suck.

Well it's just something you have to deal with when you're quarter cat.

I'm all about being honest like this. I much prefer treating people like people than jumping the hurdles of formality.

I T.A'd once.. and one student basically never came to class...
