Before I purchase this, would someone tell me if I must use a music service to download songs or can I just copy songs from cd's or from music already downloaded from itunes for the Ipod? If I need to purchase music to go into this, I will pass.
One more question, I also want to get one for my technically challenged sister. Will I give her a problem if I give her one? Thank you

That player is treated like a USB drive by Windows. Once you plug it in, you can access it via My Computer as just another drive. You can drag-and-drop any files using Windows Explorer like you would any other drive. Of course, it comes with software that will allow you to do the same thing. Or you can use Windows Media Player. So you can use your favorite ripper to rip CDs than copy them over using whatever you want.
I would probably recommend an iPod with iTunes if your sister is technically challenged. Not to say the Creative is difficult, but iTunes is definitely more intuitive for ripping songs and making playlists.

Plus, the Creative doesn't support AAC -- the format used by iTunes.

I actually have both (a Muvo and an iPod) - for ME, the Muvo is much easier because of what Truck says - it just shows up as a drive letter, and you drag your MP3s onto it.
And I *believe*, if I remember correctly (it's been a while) you can use Windows Media Player to rip & synchronize your music onto the Muvo just like itunes. Probably easier if she's converting CDs.
If she's planning on buying & downloading music, then yeah, iTunes will probably be a better choice.

I think the music of choice will be off a cd and not itunes. My daughter uses itunes and Sony, because of what GuruX said, "Plus, the Creative doesn't support AAC -- the format used by iTunes" does that mean what was downloaded from those 2 sources can't be put on the Creative?

That is correct -- iTunes uses AAC, and Sony uses ATRAC3 -- both of which are completely incompatible with other players. :(

:stupid: Doesn't get much more simple than "drag the file, drop the file".

How does it handle changes in your collection? If you add a few new songs, then hook it up, do you then have to locate those songs in your collection directory and drag them over?

Yup. There is no correlation between the files on your Muvo & the files on your HD - UNLESS you use something like Windows Media Player to synchronize them. Dunno how well that works since I've never done it, but the option's there.
