Sweet shot. Seriously. It's too bad it couldn't get framed better, but the color, lighting, and of course both the bird and the rock are just perfect.

:stupid:
Great contrast. I'd love to see the non-jpg pic, as the background looks a little blocky.
As far as the framing, a little shaving off the top might help as well.
Overall, very, very nice pic!

You can see the original, uncropped, unedited version here. http://www.pbase.com/jeffryz/image/58163859/large
I had tried to get pictures of these before, but they always burned out (over exposed) the white bird so I underexposed this by two stops and also took my light reading off some rocks instead of the water. You can click on "Original" below the picture to see the full size. I am still unsure if I have a good crop on the one posted here and will consider your suggestions.

Very nice picture zippy. I agree with Houdini and love the contrast. You have a lot of water in the uncropped picture and I prefer the closer cropping that you posted above. heh, "I may not know art, but I know what I like."

Good idea - metering off the rocks. Always good to bracket, even if you're not shooting film and are using a high-end camera like yours. I'm still waiting for digital SLRs to become affordable. I'm a film purist, though. :) I really like Ectachrome.
At any rate, it is a very nice pic.

I like Kodachrome
They give us those nice bright colors
They give us the greens of summers
Makes you think all the world's a sunny day, oh yeah
I got a Nikon camera
I love to take a photograph
So mama don't take my Kodachrome away :guitar:

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing when I posted. :) But Ect E100 VS or E100 SW is a great film for anyone wanting to shoot slides with almost no grain and vivid colors.
