Hello all! I have a Dell Inspiron 2200 with a 15.1" XGA (I think) screen and the Intel Integrated Graphics adapter. I use this notebook mainly for work. This basic notebook has been great but I have one compaint. I would love to get more useable display area. Right now the resolution is maxed out at 1024x768px. I'd like to get 1280x1024. Is there any way I can do this. I would consider any hardware or software solution. Thanks!

only solution is a hardware one: get a new laptop. (well actually you could replace the lcd on yours but it costs as much if not more than your 2200 anyway)

Yeah, LCD's are super expensive for laptops -- hence why my brother has officially bought himself a brand new laptop today. (old one's screen was dying)

:stupid:
LCDs are not multisync like CRTs are, so they're optimized to show only one resolution. In order to increase the native resolution on your machine, you can plug in an external monitor, or physically swap the LCD with a higher resolution one. I've heard of this being done successfully before, but of course it's quite expensive. Here's a guy who did it with his Inspiron 6000:
