TOKYO -- A theater audience in Japan will be sniffing -- literally -- at a Hollywood film that opens later this month in Tokyo.

A new "smellovision" service from a major telecommunications company will synchronize seven different smells to parts of "The New World," a movie starring Colin Farrell as colonial leader John Smith, set in early Virginia.

A floral scent accompanies a love scene, while a mix of peppermint and rosemary is emitted during a tear-jerking scene. Joy is a citrus mix of orange and grapefruit, while anger is enhanced by a herb-like concoction with a hint of eucalyptus and tea tree.

A company spokeswoman said the smells waft from special machines under the seats in the back rows of two movie theaters, which create different fragrances by controlling the mix of oils stored in the machines.

Good justification to fart freely in the theater. Just blame it on the NYC street chase scene.

 Now you don't have to wait for the music to get really loud, just wait for the different scents.

It is here, sort. Ever go on "Soarin' over California (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soarin'_Over_California)" at Disney's California Adventure? As you soar over different regions, you can smell them as well as see them.

The most noticible is the orange grove.

The most noticible is the orange grove.I actually enjoyed that. It was like, "Ah, this is why you put up with the liberals and the stupid anti-gun laws." Wait... Uh, too political! Oh no! This'll get the thread locked!

Seriously though, it was quite enjoyable.

Just another entry in the long list of reasons to NOT go to the movie theater.
