The next puzzle is up.

Cheesy marketing, I know, but still... I love puzzles.

Todays puzzle was... umm... lame. I think they'll get some pretty decent ones before it's all said and done though... looking forward to those.

I'm sure before too long they'll start seperating the men from the boys from the friendly users of G|A?!

I mean c'mon, we all know we are going to share the answers as needed to help our fellow G|A'ers.

Yah, I thought yesterday's was pretty easy too, like you, I think they'll get harder as the game goes on.

RoniMan
04-18-2006, 12:33 PM
i think they just have all the easy ones to entice ppl to play, and it'll get harder as the days continue...

cadetevon
04-19-2006, 08:36 AM
I hope so. It would be sucky if they all ended up so easy.

cadetevon
04-19-2006, 10:49 AM
Ok, the newest puzzle is up.

I've got the answers to two and three, but not one. I've always called it a fleur de leaf. Apparently I've been wrong all these years. Not. There just must be another name for it.

Any help out there?

*** edited with the answer ***
Oh heaven above.

Ok, totally in French: fleur de lis (not leaf). My bad.

Another puzzle is up. This one is SUPER easy. They need to start getting harder 'cause this could begin to suck.

:stupid: but there's two more "level 1" puzzles....so we'll see after that.

Who would have ever thought that hanging pictures would stump me for 3 minutes. LOL

I'm impressed that for each day, there are multiple puzzles. I did the chess one about a dozen times (ignoring the multiple choice and focusing on the chess moves only)

Yah and see I was the opposite with that puzzle. I don't know for chess and even if I did I can't imagine I'd be very good so I depended upon the questions only.

My son, now he's a little different, he lurvs chess. 10 year old little show off (he's been playing since he was 6).

cadetevon
04-26-2006, 10:43 AM
Crap. I can't answer two today's three questions. I've got the middle answer, but not the fist and third. :(

The thing outta the ground looks like a sun shape and the last one I keep thinking is ark or faith or something like that....but I've been wrong so far.

Has anyone gotten it yet?

hapoo
04-26-2006, 11:44 AM
octagon :)

cadetevon
04-26-2006, 12:09 PM
octagon :)

Sweet man, thanks. Any clue on the last one? It's really starting to tick me off.

And that 'octagon' totally looks like a sun. harumph

Son of a biscuit eater! Cheese and rice!

You gotta do a google vid search for "Silas" and then watch a specific movie clip and THEN you can hear what will be broken.

Silence.

Ugh. Butt tards.

IrishSS

That would be a lot easier if I had sound here. I got the first 2 answers from the video, alone.

I was annoyed by that puzzle.

I must have typed variations of water or liquid for the second question about 60 times before just googling the answer and being like "wtf"... sorry, not a christian. The first one also annoyed me because that shape does not fit the definition of an octagon, nor is it the object as it's described in the book (I used Amazon's "search in the text" feature and the object is solely described as a "roughly hewn tablet").

Maybe I've gotten too used to Google's spot-on accuracy with everything else. Or I'm wrong and/or crazy.

IrishSS
04-27-2006, 03:02 PM
Ya, they are being a bit vague with the fill in the blank answers.

cadetevon

Today's geography game was suck butt.

We should have been asked something about the city or the museum... not some watermarked cross. Bah. :hmm:

OK Google, enough of your no more valid pairs.

Up until this puzzle I was able to just click-click-click, but Sunday's puzzle, I had to actually work out. First time that I've had to actually think while doing one of these.

Looks like they are indeed getting tougher.

I got the right answer, but I'm not happy about having to.

Anybody get todays answer? I've done a couple of different puzzles but can never find what they are looking for in the specified text.

I think each day has multiple possible questions. For me, today's answer was Burns and the question was something about the secret of scotch education.

Try putting the bolded parts in quotes. For the first one I remember, I searched for "adoration of the magi" date:1890-1890 and the second I seached for "bishop of cavaillon" "truth begets".

IrishSS
05-07-2006, 04:16 PM
Ya, I had to do about 4 puzzles before I got a book that I could find the required parts in...

cadetevon
05-08-2006, 11:50 AM
Have ya'll been using www.books.google.com? *so far* I've been able to find all the bolded text with in the proper books. But I had a heck of a time "cleaning" the painting this last time around.

MrGreg

MrGreg
05-09-2006, 01:36 PM
I think this last one is the only one that matters how quickly you do it... assuming you're trying to be one of the elite 10,000 that makes it to the next round. And of course, the final puzzle has to be one of those video ones and I don't have sound at work.

I figure I wasn't even close, seeing as I didn't get it done until almost 1:30PM...

According to the Google Groups a lot of people received their cryptexes (cryptexii?) today. I wasn't one of them but they came via USPS from Cali so I'm holding out hope. They say they're supposed to be delivered by the 18th.

Took me about 2 minutes to pick it.

MrGreg
05-15-2006, 06:31 PM
Where are they talking about this thing? I didn't see any instructions for how to open it so I put my basic lock picking skills to work and got a url for the final challenge.

I'm curious how we were supposed to get it open.

Nevermind. I'm an idiot. The answer is printed on the damn box.

Dear Da Vinci Code Quest on Google Finalist.

Today is the day! The Final Challenge begins shortly. We have heard that some of you had not received the Finalist notification that we sent out on Monday. This may be due to our mail being directed to your spam filter. Therefore we wanted to send another email in the hopes that it reaches those of you who may not have received our last communication. In order to participate in the final challenge visit the link below and start your quest for spectacular prizes.

[link removed]

Keep in mind that this is a journey. You must complete the challenge by 1pm EDT on Sunday 5/21. The winner is not the first to complete the challenge but the one who finishes in the least amount of time will be crowned the champion. Be sure to leave enough time to finish, for once you begin you may not pause or stop the clock.

Good luck and enjoy the final challenge.

We have also heard word that some finalists have not received their cryptexes in the mail yet. The cryptexes were sent out Sat 5/13 and Monday 5/15. They were sent to the addresses provided on the contest registration form, therefore if anything was not provided correctly the cryptex may have been shipped to the wrong location. Be assured that if a cryptex comes back in the mail we will be contacting you to get the correct address.

The Da Vinci Code now in theaters

After I do the final puzzles, I'll post what they were.

SnowSurfer
05-26-2006, 07:03 AM
what were the final puzzles?

MrGreg
05-26-2006, 09:52 AM
There were 5. They were all like the ones in the earlier rounds, but harder.

-A chess one with probably 15 pieces on the board and no multiple choice questions.
-A symbol sudoku with 9x9 grid
-Picture hanging (easy)
-A big restoration one where you remove the smudges
-A jigsaw puzzle where the picture is made from images of the movie trailer and changes every second.
