can you actually put two word documents or two browser windows side by side without any window overlap, and still see each doc (or web page) full in each window (no scrolling left or right)?

im contemplating getting one (maybe two) widescreen LCDs between the dell on sale and/or the buy.com viewsonic deal i posted (with a $15 coupon, the viewsonic costs much less).

as a reference, im using the dell 2001FP 20.1" LCD monitor (the standard or 4x3 dimension monitor), full res at 1600x1200. its been great, but i want more pixel real estate, short of buying the 24" widescreen monitor (too expensive). I can buy another 2001FP but its more expensive by $10 compared to the 2005FP, or by $20 compared to the viewsonic. if the widescreens can put two doc windows side by side without overlapping or left/right scrolling, that would be the clincher.

any input from widescreen monitor users will be appreciated - thanks in advance!

THANK YOU!!! thats it - exactly what i needed to see! :cool:

i appreciate the screenies - i always wondered if i can do 2 webpages without scrolling laterally. THAT answers my question - and clinches the decision for me: widescreen it is!

now the question:
Dell 2005FP (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/PopupProductDetail.aspx?TabPage=techspecs&sku=20053YR&c=us&l=en&cs=19) - $384.99 shipped, or
ViewSonic VX2025WM - (http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=202310998&loc=) $374.95 shipped

(http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=202310998&loc=) same 3 year warranty, same brightness (300 cd/m2 (typ)).

$10 difference, almost same specs. Key Differences:
contrast ratio:
Dell = 600:1,
ViewSonic = 800:1
Response time:
Viewsonic = 8ms gray-to-gray (avg.); 16ms white-black-white (typ)
Dell = 12ms
Power Consumption:
Dell = 75 W (maximum), 55 W (typical)
Viewsonic = 35W (typ)

Dell has extra features, like PIP (who uses this?), a 4-port USB hub, and an adjustable height.
still looking into teh viewsonic if it has extra stuff that goes with it.

what do you guys think?

what do you guys think?

Well i like all the view sonics i've used. And at work i think i've used about 40 of them. 17-21" and they've done nothing but beautiful work for me. I only have a little experience with dells so i think they are fine too but i can't vouce for them as easily since i have little experience. If they both have the same warranty than i'd say pick what you think is best and if it doesn't work out well, just umm lay it somewhere precarious and umm, ":thud: " and see if the warranty is a refund or just exchange.. well check the warranty first...

The dell is on sale for $363.20 with coupon codes at TB.

I have the Samsung 21" and the dell 20" widescreens. For the dollar, the dell is still hard to beat imo.

well, after some research, the viewsonic does NOT have an adjustable height (but can swivel up or down), and has no USB ports, or extra inputs like composite and S-Video, so it cant do any PIP also (so no TV functionality unless its thru the PC or straight thru DVI connection). It does have built-in speakers (which i wont use), and consumes way less power. On the average its a bit faster in response time, and the contrast ratio is higher (ergo, better color representation).

im thinking the features seem a big plus on the dell (lots of different inputs, and USB2.0 ports for easy plugs for peripherals, and an adjustable height).
but primarily its how the picture/images/texts will be viewed. PQ-wise, viewsonic's specs seem better. i know on the 2001FP i use now i dont use any of the extra inputs, primarily staying with DVI. I guess i can always raise the monitor with a makeshift stand.

as far as warranty goes, theyre both the same. though i dont know much about viewsonic's warranty or support, i know about dell's (the never ending horror stories about their PCs). My LCD monitor hasnt crapped out on me yet, so im not sure how they are with electronics and accessories.

Maarchk, have you dealt with viewsonic's support before, or does your company do it for you?

thanks for the heads up!
yeah, its also on the front page here.
the price comes down to $363.20, but with tax, it comes back up to $384.99.

really sucks to live where dell has a business presence (maybe i should live in hawaii instead).
actually it sucks to just live HERE in NJ, period. heh!
