So my brother entered me in the kroq contest to win a 2 ticket entry to a private depeche mode concert (100 people total). And i won. I was listed on the website and everything. YEAH!
THen a week passes and i write them and they say oh, your name wasn't on the list, sorry. And the list is no longer on the website. ARRGGGG. They have no recollection of me.. say what foo? i was on the site. but i didn't save it so i have no proof.
so that blows a once in a lifetime shot at seeing a huge band up close.
But if anyone knows of the contest and happened to save the winners page? i'll soo be your bestest friend..
I tried the archive internet thing but it doesn't have any 2006 days and i'm looking for like april 7-9th...
anyone else know what sites might archive pages?
THanks for listening to my minor suckage.
Mark

Call and ask to speak to the program director. His name is Kevin Weatherly, and he's been there several years, which means he's very good at his job (PDs at major market stations tend to get moved around a lot.)
Tell him the exact story, and ask him what happened. Don't sound mad or psycho or anything.
Things get screwed up in radio contests (I work in radio.) Most likely, they accidentally got more winners than available tickets, and you were probably one of the last ones to ask.
It may be too late to get you into the DM concert, but they could probably get you into another future event.
Remember, if you get bitchy or whiny, you'll end up with nothing.

Ok so i tried the archive hunts and lots of cached google pages and nada. So i was a sad panda. And then i used my poor guessing approach to try and add on to the kroq.com/sticker06/ prefix since the pages i found cached all had that opening, and low and behold i find
http://www.kroq.com/kroqnow/sticker06/winners.html
Bingo! Mark Garcia of pasadena, come on down... or at least i hope so. So i didn't call the head honcho that was suggested but i figure i can try the gentleman who wrote me one last time and see whats up. So i wrote this and i hope it is good for something.
Dear Jeff,
The website of winners did seem to dissapear, but after much searching, I found this page.
http://www.kroq.com/kroqnow/sticker06/winners.html
It has the list of winners as they were posted and the first M name is Mark Garcia of Pasadena. I hope this is satisfactory proof, but I realize that perhaps it was an incorrect list. I know it is probably late to hope to go to the concert but I thought I would try.
Thank you for your time,
Sincerely,
Mark Garcia
Thats the best I could write at 1145 pm. So who knows.
THank you for your listening, your suggestions, and your sympathy.
sadly i only get a ticket or two if this even works out so i cannot take the whole GA crowd with me. i think we'd fill the whole venue. (100 people)

Sorry to hear of your suckage. Hope everything works out. I saw DM in 1994 after winning a radio contest. It was one of my fiancee and me's first dates. It was loud as hell, but very good. Good luck! Btw, what does "Depeche Mode" mean anyway?

Glad you found the page...good luck in getting the tix.
Those of us who enter online sweepstakes and contests have learned the hard way to always do a screen capture whenever we see a "win" to make sure it doesn't disappear.

Thank you for your tenacity! After diving back through the hard copies of the sticker campaign, I discovered your name WAS one of the winners! It was a clerical error that you were not contacted after the initial website winner list was posted. I am very sorry for any inconvenience and applaud your detective skills.... Attached you will find all the information you need for the weekend. I will be your guide, so if you have any questions feel free to call me at the station and/or e mail me prior to the show. Thanks much for your patience... Sincerely, Jeff
Well thats darn nifty. Thanks for all your help and advice all. And yes, I guess its best to screen save for future reference. Hmm and depeche mode means...
It is a common mistake to assume that the name Depeche Mode is purely a translation from the French for 'fast fashion'. Where this error started is hard to establish and when music sites such as the All Music Guide still get it wrong (also used for Biographies on the now defunct CDNOW), it is easy to see why this error still perpetuates across hundreds of sites. As a visitor to 1980-89 pointed out, dépêche means dispatch (or update, message or news), mode means fashion.
So Depeche Mode means Fashion News or Fashion Update. The confusion arises from someone remembering their high school French: the verb 'se dépêcher' means to hurry, which is probably where the 'fast' originates (thanks to Lawrence Koch for explaining the French translation and the source of the error). So, Depeche Mode is named after the magazine and that name roughly translates as Fashion News. To the right is a picture of the magazine.

So no, i didn't know that. Learn something new everyday. :)

Have fun at the concert. I swear it's easier to call into KIIS than into KROQ. Too bad I've never won anything from either. And no I haven't called into KIIS since my sophmore year in HS.
