I don't stay in hotels in the city, since I live here and all, so I can't really rate them. However, it sounds like you want to stay downtown near the race start so you don't have to take your bike on the subway. Downtown is also probably the most expensive area of the city in general, so I'd probably recommend sticking to the group rate at the downtown Marriott that the tour is offering. You could stay uptown and brave the city streets on bike to get to the start, but navigation gets pretty tricky once you get into downtown.
