Got this AMD Dual Core opteron 165 for $270. I overclocked it to 2.6ghz and its rock stable. I could probally hit more but my Ram is a bottleneck. It doesnt fail prime 95 but the system freezes. The cpu is cooled by H2O. I choose this over AMD X2's because they got 1mb cache per core and are really good in oerclocking. This is actually equal or faster than the X2 4800+. If anyone is thinking of upgrade, definitely consider the AMD opty 165
AMD Opty 165 = Bang for buck!

*glances at the price tag of the 4800+ and snickers*
The opterons have many more features/instructions and stuff than the X2's have.. not sure offhand if they support the SSE3 stuff(not that it matters), but I do know they're a computation/server chip, so things are already optimal :)
What type of setup are you using? (mobo/ram?)
I'm thinking about making the opteron switch here sometime this summer..

Well I got Asus A8N-E.. Got the Great mobo for overclocking but its decent.. I would recommend the DFI ultra D. I got 2gigs of Corsair DDR400. I would recommend some good overclocking ram....

stupid/dumb question here... 939 socket opterons work in 939 socket AMD64 boards right?

Well Most of the socket 939 mobo's support Opteron CPU... Some might need a Bios Update
