Boy Does Homework, Smokes Pot With Mom

HANOVER, Pa. - A 13-year-old boy told police his mother required him to do his homework first thing when he got off the school bus, then smoked marijuana with him as a reward.

The mother said she had been smoking marijuana with her son since he was 11, usually as a reward, according to court documents.

The police interview came after officers executed a search warrant at the woman's home last weekend and seized marijuana, an array of drug paraphernalia and $600 in cash that she said belonged to a drug dealer, court documents said.

Amanda Lynn Livelsberger, 30, faces charges of marijuana possession, corruption of minors, endangering the welfare of children and possession with intent to distribute drug paraphernalia, police said.

A telephone listing for Livelsberger couldn't be found and it wasn't clear if she had an attorney.

Not everyone who has a child young turns out to be a loser. My oldest son is 18, I'm 36. He is an honors student, teaches drums to young children and works part time. He will be attending University in the fall to be a teacher. Some people use having kids at a young age as an excuse as to why they werent raised properly but I think those people are just selfish and lazy. If when they had those kids they werent prepared to sacrifice everything to ensure they grew up happy and productive then they should of given them to someone who would....but again thats just my opinion...:shrug:

I think it's kinda cute. I mean, sure the whole exposing minors to drugs thing but... really, parents don't do enough activities with their children anymore. She is sharing one of her interests with her child. Also, she made him do his homework first and used it (along with her attention) as a reward for getting him to do his homework. How many parents use cookies or other non-healthy foods as a reward for getting their kids to do stuff... and to be honest, I'm not entirely sure which one of those would lead to a shorter life. I haven't seen any head to head trials between those two (not sure how you would be able to legally do a study like that) but on a population basis, the unhealthy food shortens more lives than marijuana. Just a thought.

I lean more in the direction of the mother substituting the drugs for a live-in prostitute. The benefits are much better. He would always come home after school, his concentration would be better thus scoring higher on tests, any acne would be cleared up, his mother would always know where he was and his diet would be better. The benefits are endless ;)

Oh, yeah, I agree with there being a major difference in 17 & 21. I would have been just as ready at 19 as I was at 21, though, I think. :shrug: :)

Your statement is a bit confused. Often time when you hear someone say that the person was too young to have a child, and therefore the child had a bad upbringing and ended up screwing up somehow, they are not the parent of the child. Most of the time it is someone making an observation based on the end result. Your statement about a young parent giving up the child if they were not prepared to sacrifice everything assumes that the parent is the one who usually makes the excuses for the screwed up kid. When it is not I don't think. It's usually those who haven't had a child at a young age, and don't think others should either.

Hmm that's a bit more confusing than I intended it to be. Good luck siphoning out the golden nugget of knowledge somewhere in that statement ;)

I was trying to say that people can not just assume that because the mother had him at 17,that she was too young and maybe that is why she seems to have had an error in judgement. I guess alot of my comment is based on experience. I was told many times, before my son was even born, by people I hardly knew that I could never raise him properly and should give him to people that could. Of course some of the people telling me that were advocates for adoption because that is how they got their kids. I also know some people who have had kids the same time as me...I was the fifth one at my highschool that year...who used their young age as an excuse to neglect their children. So I wasnt necessarily talking about this woman but people in general. Like Jenny was saying about how she would of been ready to have children at 19, its also about maturity and not just age. I know some 30 yr olds who would be lousy parents. As for the cookies vs marjiuana...only thing is cookies arent illegal otherwise you could just bake the pot right into them...:thumb:
