Im sorry about Chetta and I hope she comes home just fine but its like you said yourself you dont want her to suffer so be strong. I have had to do that a few times. The last time with my sis and her sick puppy. It is very difficult to do because its us who misses them but hopefully knowing you are able to help end any pain or suffering and that she is in a place where she can chase all the darn cats she wants will help you. And we will say a little prayer for both of you.

While I've tried to put it out of my mind, tomorrow I have to take my beautiful chocolate lab to the vet, and might not be bringing her home. She started getting tumors, which the vet originally diagnosed as infiltrative Lipoma's-and she wasn't too awfully concerned because they were small, but she has developed a very very large fluid filled sack on her chest, and I've noticed that while the small lipoma's are coming and going (they fill up, then go away after a while)..she's gotten very lethargic lately, and won't let me clean her ears, or clip her nails, and her joints just seem to be affected pretty bad since the winter..she has developed a sore on her arm that isn't healing. While she's content to be just sitting out in the nice spring breeze, she's not playful like she had been before..I'm kind of wrecked over it-she's my best friend in the world. If you guys wouldn't mind, please keep Chetta in your thoughts, and maybe say a little prayer that if it's her time that I have the strength to have her put down so she doesn't have to suffer..thanks.

Sounds exactly like my mom's dog. He's fat, tumor filled, has a sore that he keeps licking so it won't heal, and he loves to spend all day sitting outside in the grass. He's just fine and he's not suffering, from what we can tell. He's just a crabby old man who likes to watch nature. :-) Don't give up on your doggie until she gives up on herself.

Our thoughts and prayers to you and Chetta, Obby. Where did you get Chetta's great name? My wife and I are on vigil for both of our (very old) Siamese, so I know how you feel.
All the best,
Thresh

:stupid:

Hopefully the vets can intervene in some way to allow Chetta some more and enjoyable time with you. Lipomas in humans are usually not a big deal. Hopefully they can drain the fluid that has built up and do something about the non-healing wound, like remove the hair around it and bandage it or debride it to allow new tissue to heal.

I know how you feel, though. I've been there too. Good luck to both of you.

Well good news everyone..Chetta is home where she belongs tonight-a bit stressed but doing ok. She was so freaked out at the vet's office that they had to give her valium so that they could get her on the table to assess the situation properly. While the very large sack on her chest looks very bad, the vet is quite sure that it's nothing to worry about..(Thank God)..the other tumors that she is getting are the lipoma's which just seem to be larger because she's lost some weight. Her ticker is great, her lungs sounded good, and the vet thinks the sore on her leg was a scratch that may have just gotten infected and she was licking it to clean it..I am SO RELIEVED. Thank you everyone for your good thoughts (and prayers if you said any for us)..She is going in for surgery on the 19th of June to just verify that the darn things aren't malignant, a teeth cleaning, and some other routine items-her prognosis is excellant and she'll be with me for a few more years-God willing. Thanks again. :)
Ob and Chet.

Thank God. Good for you Obby.

almost daily..except she's been kind of tempermental since this past winter and she gets pretty moody when I try to brush them..I think she just wants to hang out, relax, and look at the clouds and enjoy her old age. I take her in once a year anyway for teeth scaling whether she needs it or not..just to make sure she keeps the peridontal disease away..she is mad because i GOT RID of her favorite blue toothbrush..she doesn't care for the new red one. I think the brissles may be to rough on her mouth. And now that I think of it..she can't really rinse and spit so who knows how bad her doggie toothpaste tastes.
good job. http://harry.ulyssis.org/CarolineD/emoticons/dog.gif

Oh good! That's awesome. :)

On another note... How the heck do you brush a cat's teeth without getting your eyeballs clawed out? lol

Sidenote...a girl at work (combined with her b/f) tried to vaccum her cat last weekend because it was shedding. The cat shredded the guy's hand because of that dumb stunt.

Well first of all make sure the claws are clipped (which in itself is a feat unlike no other)..then just to be safe, wrap the cat in a towel nice and tight..like you would swaddle a baby..you might need help doing that..and if you can cover the cats' eyes..they calm down once the eyes are covered..after that you're home free, you'll just need to be quick about it-

or if you can't get the towel, grab the cat along your forarma dn hold it against your body then go for it. this might not work for you, i've got nie long arms that are well suited for giving the cats meds.

My sister had a dog which developed tumors. She found a product which reduced the tumors and prolonged it's life for about three years. It's called Tahitian Noni. It's for people but has been used for animals with health problems.

Except for the happy part, this sounds like what happened to my mother-in-law.

They put their 15 year old dog down last thursday.

Trust me... all of us have had our "sad times". However it is the bright days ahead that you should look forward to.

Don't forget the past... just pass on those life lessons to the future generations so that they may benefit from your experience.
