what the hell is considered political here? there are no guidelines.
my locked thread was about securing our borders, and finding a solution to it. what the hell. it's not asking for what our politicians need to do about it. it's asking what you would do.

we can't talk about immigration, but one member can note it largely in his signature. why is that?

the thing is these conversations in OT are so civil and just seeking opinions and i don't see the harm.

but no just lock it up boys. which i guess beats deleting it like was happening.

anybody celebrating a birthday today? i need to make a thread. :splat:

This world is simply made out of Kittens, puppies and rainbows..anything less is NOT ACCEPTABLE. Personally, I didn't see why the border thread needed to be locked. If people are posting something that doesn't fit the "happy place" concept with the GAMS, then why lock the whole thread? It's a newsworthy discussion, not a presidential bashing debate..COMEON GAM'S.. we aren't in OZ (yet)

I can't wait till the winter and summer before the presidential primaries and all of that stuff is floating around in people's minds and being passed by in lieu of talk about fluff.

Got/National Enquirer?

Got/Star?

well, I'm sure someone will have a nice story about a cute baby or something they can post..
I'll sign up for a few dozen fluffies myself..here in my Martha Stewart world everything is grand.

I laugh at this whole thing.

The people who complained about the PF caused this themselves. People could have had some pol discussion while avoiding anything too troubling, yet they decided to complain because people didn't act the way *THEY* wanted them to. They could have stopped sniping at people, using oblique attacks, PMing GAM or Apex because they didn't like somebody or an idea, but they didn't.

Now, they have nothing, and will complain about it. They caused this themselves, now they can wallow in their fluffyness.

Good job at nurfing the boards, all you had to do was not complain.

my point is my thread wasn't even political.

as far as complaining, you shouldn't be casting stones. i have actually bit my tongue many many times because it isn't worth it. and i will not say what i really want to say to you here again, because... it isn't worth it.

I never complained about anybody, at least not in the goal of seeking puntitive actions. I simply shrugged it off or said "Well, I don't get along with this person, it is what it is".

However, those who continually complained about subject matter, opinions, or motivations were the ones who got the board nerfed. They could have just avoided what they didn't like, or didn't have the skin to take.

It was a simple exercise, if you could take the heat, then get out of the kitchen. Now, the kitchen has been removed because some whiny individuals couldn't deal with it.

Great job :thumb: , now don't complain.

If you want political discussion, go over to Anandtech or OC's forums, just bring some thick skin. I find it funny that many people, especially the ones of a certain political slant, refuse to engage in pol discussions in other places.

you seem to want to put the blame solely on me. there were many others, and you should include yourself.
denial isn't just a river in Egypt. :P

again, i haven't complained about the PF being closed. i am speaking of a specific thread that was just locked this morning with no explanation as to why. i am speaking of some guidelines here. stop trying to contort it so you can make it seem that i am complaining about something other than what i am complaining about.

oh and btw, i am a regular on anandtech's political forum. ;)

I find it funny that I might be blamed for the closing of the PF.

Why you might ask?

1. I hadn't recently made any personal attacks or anything out of the bounds of the rules. I hadn't done anything serious in months, maybe as long as 6 months. In general the PF was MUCH more sedate than at any time previous.

2. My apparent "rudeness" was nothing more than a sham, something amplified by those who couldn't bear the stark truth. Furthermore, it was assumed rudeness based upon text, which is difficult to extrapolate intent from.

3. The only thing that had happened prior to the PF closing was me posting "volume", which was attacked as being too much. Well, ummm...you aren't forced to read it.

The PF was closed because too many people complained and Apex was afraid it was affecting business. The complaints, I suspect, were lodged largely by a handful of individuals who just didn't like the mix of topics. Furthermore, those who complained about rudeness only fell into the issue of extrapolating intent from text. I got tired of defending my positions from personal attacks, whether direct or not (notice I don't even use my reviewer tag anymore, wonder why?), from people who never really added much to the forum (or site) in general and were even less apt to be accepting of differing opinions.

There are those who said "good riddance" to the PF. Well, it's gone and anything remotely controvertial has to be canned. It is what it is, the attitude towards political content (good riddance) caused it being canned.

Now, people can take that and say "I always accept differing opinions". I find this amusing since many do not. I never *ONCE* complained to Apex, or any GAM about somebody abusing me, other than saying "Well, this person sucks, they attack me, but you know what, nothing can be done". There are others here who cannot say the same. Why? Because they themselves cannot take what they dish.

You can carry out your personal crusade against me all you want Nickel, it really doesn't make a difference to me. As I said in the PM, you don't really matter in my life and are nothing more than an annoyance. Please don't bait by saying "I could post how you were so mean to me, *bawl*", play your victim games somewhere else to somebody that will actually be affected by it.

Your penchant for drama is only surpassed by Panache and soap operas.

If neffing in every thread. posting brain-dead commentary and drama, is doing something positive, then I am glad I add what you consider nothing.

Folks, if you don't like what a particular person has to say on a regular basis, just add them to your ignore list. It works like a charm!

Then you won't see their "ignored" posts and you won't get angered, annoyed or hurt by their posts.

the only thing i will say about this is that you're making a huge assumption, namely that those who are now "complaining" about the missing/locked threads are the very same ones who initially "complained" and got the PF closed in the first place.

Well, we know who's complaining about the closure and I believe he knows who the complainers are... it may not be an assumption.

i bitched plenty about the PF's closure, but not once did i say anything to the mods or bitch about anyone in the PF.

btw LK, if you had a balanced representation of people from apex on OC's board i'd be over there in a second but you have like 20 members and 3/4 of them are leaning left. I can't take you all on by myself it's exhausting... hence my preference for debate here, there's an equal amount to go around and the process can be distributed evenly...
