Crappy phone cam pic, but this is my workplace in Lowell, MA, right across from the Merrimack River.

If the TV clips aren't enough for you, here's some more photo evidence:

We have had the last two days off due to the road leading to the building closing, and tomorrow is looking doubtful too. We'll see what happens.

Luckily, aside from a water drip in my pantry and flooded basement (unfinished, and not mine seeing as I rent), there is not too much damage to be said. Thank god.

Yeah, heard about this flooding through my work. Apparently our trucks can't deliver to MA and NH because of the road closures.

Lowell had over 15 inches of rain since Friday. Rain is forecasted throughout the week although it won't be in the same volume as the previous storms. The hardest hit area seems to be in the I-95 corridor past I-93, in the Peabody/Saugus/Lynn area as well as the Merrimack Valley in the Lowell/Lawrence area, at least in Massachusetts. Those areas are looking pretty bad with people being evacuated.

Also, an anecdote to that picture is that to the left, there was a car submerged in water about window-deep. Apparently someone had tried to drive the car out of the parking lot in fear that a car might be a total loss if it stayed there (the flooded area is a parking lot). However, the driver underestimated how much water was at the entrance of the building, and completely flooded out the car. He escaped through an open window and obviously now the car is probably completely under water since this picture was taken at 10am yesterday and the Merrimack River has since crested.

About 9 years ago the area where I work had 15-18 inches of rain in about 8 hours - it started in the early afternoon, and things were flooding during the drive home. Flooded basements in the area were the norm. I saw a Cracker Barrel restaurant where the water level was several inches above the floor level. Fortunately, the line of rain that stalled was about 8 miles from my home.

Don't drink the water... :puke:

I heard that the amount of water up there has caused all the raw sewage to flood out into the streets too.

I was in in Hawaii when there were 40 days of rain straight and it was nasty with the raw sewage on the beaches.

Yeah, the Merrimack apparently has a sewage problem as well as the Peabody area where the pipes have backed up and there is a backflow of sewage into the water.

I think the issue here is that a flood of this proportion NEVER happens in this area and people were just outright unprepared.
