View Full Version : Political Six Degrees of Separation...

Let's play a game where someone throws out what they feel is a totally benign topic but deep down it's as political and controversal as the war in Iraq.
Let's see if we can't validly argue that nothing can be discussed without it ultimately being censored/locked.
Here's the first topic:
"ice cream"

I think if someone can find something that's 3 or 4 degrees away from politics we'll give them master status in this game.
Ice cream is mostly sugar. There are huge tariffs on sugar from sugar canes due to beet farmer lobbying which makes the price of ice cream somewhat higher.

speaking about sugar! cocacola uses sugar from suppliers that employ child labor! their policy strictly states they will not buy from suppliers who do so...YET...they do it anyways! I HATE COKE!!

didn't coke used to have real coke in it? of course, the incredibly innefective war on drugs prolly had something to do with not getting it like that anymore.

Ice Cream is why everyone is getting so damn fat in this country. The government should step in and regulate it.
There...one degree...I tie with Burz for the lead. But I concede that his was better.

Ice Cream is a derogtory generalization about what types of food the Eskimo's eat. Everyone knows that frozen cream is too hard to eat.

My post is good-natured but at the same time pointed. I say that because censorship without clear boundaries or definition is open to arbitrary interpretation and application.
Correct or not, that's what I've been seeing recently -- the sqweaky wheel gets the oil and others get the shaft.
Apex, that said, I think your avatar is representative of how many feel about the way things are going.
I hope people realize that the delay is temporary, though very necessary.
We simply do not yet have the moderators to create/keep a well functioning PF. I'd rather no PF than an bad one. We have had some offers from people to moderate though, so it shouldn't be too much longer.
This intermediate time has given us an opportunity to see and evaluate how forum members will act given a new set of boundaries.

Yeah, it was to see what would happen if GA forum members were forced to go outside and get some sunlight & fresh air. Apparently very very bad things... :smash:

A) I'm back, I've been gone, I'm sure no one really cares, but yeah.
B) I'm glad to hear that the Pol is being looked at.
C) IAHAD! That's a horrible mistake! Basketball or no!
and of course, back to the original topic at hand:
Ice Cream? Those Ben and Jerry's folks are a bunch of left-wing Commie loving punks, whom I don't support one ounce, though I do support a pint at a time. Damn them and their good product.

That being said, when the political forum returns, can I still post political topics in OT? :thumb:
