What's the favorite thing you own? The thing that even if insurance replaced it, you'd still be heartbroken?

Mine is my Ellsworth Truth. I built it up by hand and am just extremely pleased with how it turned out and i constantly find myself grinning while riding it. i would be pretty devastated if it got stolen.

so what material object makes you smile?

my 9th grade softball glove that i used through HS, college, and after college in local women's leagues. it's so nice and broken in and it's been with me through some crazyfun times.

In the past, I woulda said my "Nas-T Bird". However it will soon be given to my Nephew as his first car (via my Brother) and the new car (the 300C ) has not been "personalized" enough to make it uniquely mine yet... as it could easily be replaced right now if something were to happen to it. I do think I'll be sad when I see the 'Bird for the last time heading back down to Florida (but at least I'll be able to see it again during the Christmas holidays... unless my nephew wraps it around a pole or something.)

Pretty much, to be honest... I don't have that much of an emotional attachment to most of my material things now except for maybe the files on my computer and pictures of family and friends that can't be replaced.

:stupid: I'm pretty attached to my baseball glove (yes, I'm a girl that likes boys, but loves baseball).

It feels sooo good on my hand.

I'm extremely curious as to what Yoss' is. LOL

If I had to rescue one thing from my house (assuming the family was out safely), I'd have to go for our dog. We really like Otto. I've got a well-worn Bible that I'm kinda fond of (it's falling apart again after I had it rebound once). All the family pictures, etc., are important, too.

I'd venture that he's referring to a bodily part....

This is a tough choice, probably between my superior yeast cultures jar and my banneton.

Here's what my superior yeast cultures look like at their frothy best:

If we're going for stuff insurance can't replace I'd say my "The Girl From the City" book. It's a Russian book my mom gave me from her own childhood. It's a 1957 edition and falling apart and it would be the first thing I'd grab in case of a fire. There's just no way to replace it.
Also, I have a box of my most priceless treasures (ie. junk to everyone else) that would devastate me if lost.

I am not into possessions But the things I would grab in case of fire , earthquake etc are the scrapbooks I am making for my grandchildren. Also,
my dad's nameplate that sat on his desk when he was in the Navy.

well, I guess I'd start with My chapel sterling and crystal rosary beads that the girls got me after we buried my niece with my rosary beads that belonged to my grandma. And family pictures..irreplaceable..along with a small wooden box that holds all the first locks of hair from each of my children. But most importantly is the box of Christmas ornaments for the tree in the family room that I decorate with only very special "memories"..my girls first pair of baby shoes hang from plaid ribbons directly under the branches where the Angel sits on top, a picture of my former father in law from his Princeton Graduation, the white scapulars that the boys wore on their baptism days, A four leaf clover-in a small frame that my youngest daughter found while she was stuck out in right field while playing on her softball team at age 7..(she was bored!)..that kind of stuff...
And also I'd rescue a letter my grandmother wrote to one of my aunts about me ( both now deceased a long time) when I was 9 years old-about how I was such a nice little girl and how thoughtful I was because I reminded her daily to take her pills..My mom found it when my aunt passed away 13 years ago-when she was cleaning out her house..it meant alot to read it.

I don't have anything that I own that I would be particularly sad to lose anymore. All the things that I've really valued in my life I've already lost.

my wedding/engagement rings. Not because they're expensive or anything shallow like that, but because everytime I look at my hand, I think: "awww, I have an amazing husband who loves me and I love him!!!". And even though the rings are insured, it just wouldn't be the same if I had to replace them, because this is the ring he picked out just for me.

In terms of what I'd grab if there was a fire (since obviously my rings are on me at all times) is probably our computers - I have a ton of pictures and other personal stuff on my harddrive that i'd hate to lose. hmm... maybe I should make some backups!!

For me it's a framed print from The Lion King that my brother got for me a few years ago for my birthday. He knew that Lion King was my all-time favorite movie (for a few reasons), and I was TOTALLY not expecting something like this. :)

wow. some pretty cool responses! i guess on the sentimental side i recently got an envelope that contained all of the cards that i ever sent to my grandma. i never knew she kept them until she passed away. kinda cool.

nice. i have pretty much my first glove ever. i never really played baseball but i got it when i was a kid and, while it's pretty stiff, i don't think i could get rid of it because i think it's pretty much the only piece of athletic equipment my dad ever bought for me.

i think it's a dale murphy "signed" edition.

My prized possesion is a lamb I got the day I was born. My dad went to the gift shop and bought it. It plays brahms lullaby. When I was 16 our house caught fire I only wanted one thing my lamb. The fire fighters went in and got it but it smelled like smoke and it was all wet. I couldn't save it so I cut the lamb open and took out the music box. I still have it to this day. It reminds me of when my dad loved me.
