So I turbo'd my XB

I bought the XB in November 04 when the gas prices started to surge. I figured at 37mpg and Toyota quality/reliability how could I go wrong. Many of you probably know me from my MR2 which made 398whp and ran 11s in pump gas. So driving the XB was like....well walking. 108hp at the crank was just way too slow. Suprisingly the car didnt drive like a 1.5 liter with 108hp. Toyotas VVTI did a pretty good job giving the little motor some torque. Anyways, I decided to turbo the car a couple of weeks ago. The first thing I noticed was even more torque! I dynoed the car bone stock and it made 89whp and 90ft/lbs of torque. After putting a 14G mitsu turbo here is my graph from my dyno session yesterday.

This was with stock intake and stock exhaust which is damn puny. I monitored the AFR from the stock Greddy Emanage and I am not please with it so I will be tuning and remapping it soon.

That is awesome. How much boost? 63% more torque is a pretty big increase. What can/will you do for the tranny?

figure you change the intake/exhaust, you'll get up closer to 140's, right?

that'll be pretty decent for the xB how was the mod process for getting the mitsu turbo in there?

That torque sure falls off fast, and that HP line isn't very smooth. With a tune you should pick up a ton of torque after 4k rpm, which will also make those HP numbers go up.

Is it intercooled?

Here are a few pics. I sold the MR2 about 3 months ago. Im still running stock exhaust on the XB so the top end gain is only about 26whp. Once I make my new exhaust, it should open up the top end a lot since the stocker is a straw size 1.5". One of the other shops we do work with has a similar set up but running 1psi more with full exhaust. At the drag strip he was able to run a 13.1. Thats not blistering fast but its pretty impressive on this little 1.5 liter. As far as the tranny goes, my clutch blew the first time I spooled. Since that dyno session, I have re-gapped the plugs which were gapped at the factory setting. I had to bring the gap down much smaller which got rid of the hesitation. Havent had a chance to take this car to the track but was doing some canyon stuff with my friend and his WRX. I was there with him the entire time so the power is there. At 2400lbs, doesnt take much to get this car moving.

13.1 sounds very fast for that little box of a car. It will pretty much smoke a lot of stock cars that people think are quick. He must have done a lot of work and had to change out tires and suspension, etc. to make it grab. <edit> Stock quarter mile is 18.7 from what I just read <edit>
What kind of mileage are you getting now? I assume that it isn't that much worse as long as your not punching it.

The car is definately peppy now. Im a little hesitant on callling 13.1 fast only because of the other cars I drive. Gas mileage dropped a little bit from 34-37mpg to 25-29mpg. My goal is to run mid 12s in this car. Why? Because its funny. I could easily run those times with the other cars but I just think its hilarious seeing this little box go that fast.

yeah.. that has me rollin' as well.

You'll definitely have to get some video of it when it's done... I'd LOVE to see that. (Kinda like that 12 second Dodge Minivan with the 4 cylinder + turbo that dusts off a camaro. )

Its hard to see the turbo but it uses a Mitsubishi 14G turbo. Cast iron manifold. The kit is about $2200 installed (greddy).

Nice job. I like the concept of "sleeper cars"...good idea.
Wish I could see you beat some of these people out there rolling around in stock 'everything' cars that just put sponsor stickers on their cars like they've got aftermarket suspension, intake, cooler, turbo, brakes, nitrous, etc. and you can CLEARLY TELL that they're running a stock car when you get next to them.

My car doesnt run 13.1. Im assuming my car will do high 14s at this stage. I still have to do a bit more tuning on the dyno. Fuel rail and injectors are coming this week. If I can bump up to 9psi, ill be in the 13s for sure. Here is a vid from last week.

Nice setup, you'll definitely have a blast with all the high schoolers rollin on their parents credit cards..
but the real question is..... Where's the wing ?

Gotta have a wing to make it look stock, or rather, to complete the 'I try to make it look cool, but it's stock on the inside' look.
