MG TF to be built by Chinese in Oklahoma...

As the late Hunter S. Thompson was attributed as saying, "when the going gets weird, the weird turn pro"...

Today Nanjing Automobile Group will announce that the company will build the MG TF Coupe at a factory in Ardmore, Oklahoma by 2008 and locate its American and European headquarters 90 miles north in Oklahoma City... This will make Nanjing the first Chinese automaker to truly enter the U.S. market...

the chinese are outsourcing manufacturing to the US? WTF?

I've also noticed that Toyota is running an ad about how some of their cars are assembled in the US.

I wonder why it's cheaper to do it that way?

toyota's been running those ads since americans been japanese car bashing back in the 80's & 90's. not necessarily cheaper, but just better pr for toyota.

for china, perhaps not necessarily cheaper, but better quality and hopefully start off with a better image than makers like hyundai had with their poor quality when they started out. cost them 10year/100kmile to try to break that image...with limited success
