DWP-will add more money to your insurance bill!

the newest thing for insurance companies to charge you more money for and add points to your license!
is it worth paying a lawyer hundreds or thousands of dollars to get taken off your record?
Quote:
DWP, also known as driving with porn, appears to be the newest craze plaguing American highways.

Tracy Pope of Aiken, S.C., was recently arrested for watching an X-rated DVD on his car's video system while he was driving, reported News 10 of Tampa Bay, Fla.

Pope faces several charges, including promoting obscenity due to the fact that a child could have looked over and caught an eyeful of the XXX action. Cops also seized several other X-rated DVDs from his car.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,215444,00.html

so if you have a DVD in the car you better be watching a old Disney flick. if the cops want to or the jesus freak next to your car reports he seen any skin showing you could be paying hundreds maybe thousands in lawyers and court costs! just something to think about before you put that dvd in the player in your car.

Look, I don't really care if you label me a Jesus freak (there's an inside joke there if you want to find it), but I don't mind none too much if people I know are watching porn in their own privacy. Driving down the highway isn't their own privacy. I've been on road trips where I can identify what movie and what scene were playing in the video screens of the cars that were going down the same road.

I know it's usually done in sarcasm and whatnot, but seriously, "Won't somebody think of the children?"

Porn aside, NO ONE should be watching a video of any kind while driving. That's just stupid & he SHOULD get a ticket for that.

Now if a passenger was watching it? That would be an interesting case. And I'm not too clear on why the DVDs were 'seized from his car', unless the content was illegal.

Yeap the driver should be charged with wreckless driving for watching anything while driving and it should be at least 2 points on the license.

It used to be illegal to have a TV at/on/near your instrument panel. Is it legal nowadays?

As far as I know, it is still illegal to have a video screen in view of the driver. However, in this case it is not a question of the screen being visible to the driver, but visible outside the car. There's a reason that they don't (or didn't, in the cases where drive-in theaters don't exist any more) allow certain films to be shown at drive-in theaters. For the same reason, I would fully support those films being banned from "drive-by" theaters.

A friend of mine told me that if there's a TV up front that it had to be wired to turn off when the car is moving or something like that. I can't verify this but it sounds sorta reasonable.

yeah. that is the law, but people have easily modified these things to bypass that safety.

I agree with the above: you should NOT be watching a movie while driving. However, I don't care if its porn or what but it is subject to the same public decency laws. If someone can see it through your window (which they can) you are subject to the same laws as if you were walking around with a big porn poster.
Just my two cents.
