How to get a deal at Enterprise on a rental...

This article (allegedly written by a former Enterprise employee) gives a few tips. Some of them require a little deception on the part of the renter, and YMMV for certain, but I thought the article overall was worth posting.

Quote:
A former manager in the Enterprise fleet sales division has a guilty conscience to unload at your feet. 9 tips, 5 pages of insider info about how the car rental game really works. Car rental insurance is a scam, but you can flip the script and use if to your advantage. Prices are liquid, and depending on the day of the week and how you butter your agent in certain ways, you can get a good deal. Despite the commercial with the brown-paper-wrapped car, Enterprise employees hate picking you up and dropping you off.

Don't use the tips that require lying. They're just there so you know how the game works.

Great tips! thanks Mike! I know I'm gonna use some of these, though I wouldn't be surprised if Enterprise changes policy accordingly.

I can't access the article from work, but a while ago I got a nice upgrade at Enterprise (from a full sized car to a Nissan Armada) by having a free upgrade coupon from a previous (work-paid) rental.

Hmm...note to self: don't use enterprise. I don't want to play these silly games.

I wonder what happens if you try to reserve one online. Will it be cheaper than what they'll quote you?

I still can't believe Enterprise doesn't offer a Military Discount. They were founded by a Navy Pilot! Anywho, I could see some of these working, others won't always work. Anytime I try and use something someone says to try, it ends up backfiring.

Another tip.... Call in 1 day in advance...make a reservation for a compact/economy car and say you are going to pick it up in the early morning. Dont pick up your until the afternoon. If you are lucky, they should have given away all the compact/economy cars and have trucks/suvs/luxury cars available. They should honor the price they quoted for the compact cars. Ive done this about 10 times for my last job. I would say 25% of the time they have a compact in stock.... 50% they upgrade me for free and 25% they drive me to another location to pick up a compact.

Driving to another location would kind of suck!

Wow, this guy certainly has a beef with his former employer.

Good tips, thanks!

That's something I dislike about a lot of military people: the sense of entitlement.

Is it just me or did that just come out of left field?

I don't think he sounded like he was entitled to a discount. Sounded like it would be nice, considering that many businesses do it...and also the nature of the jobs that military personnel perform.

Also, it would make sense for a discount to be in place if the company was in fact founded by a former Navy pilot.
