must take one of these interstate, routes, or parkways.



Wear your seat belt, nothing hanging from the rear view

mirror, do the speed limit (not a mile over) use cruise control if you

have it, no cracks in your windshield, use your turn signals

In NJ if you have the dice or the common carfreshener tree they can pull you over for obstruction of view.....even get you for that rosary that some folks like to hang.

Just the police w/ nothing to do. A friend of mine is an officer of the law and he told me he can pretty much make up anything and pull you over but the easiest is the stuff hanging from the mirror, and they too have an unwritten "ticket quota". Generates income for the town.

Personally, I wouldn't do that... since I'd probably already be at "high risk" of getting a major beatdown (DWB - Driving while Black) with backup being called to handle "the situation". A comment like that could end in some serious pain (nightsticks and tasers... possibly bullets) which is something I'd highly try to avoid.

However, if you feel comfortable enough in trying that, then go ahead and do it and let us know the results.

Honestly, the last time I got pulled over (over 2 years ago) I put on my "happy, non threatening" face and I didn't do anything to cause the officer to get nervous... and fortunately, he let me off with a warning (The officer was camping on the side of an overpass with a speed trap... yet he pegged me out of a group of vehicles.)

we have them in ohio but their usually talked about on the news and its for the state troopers and local. last time i saw ALOT of troopers pulling people over in areas were lucky to see a trooper

Most states, if i'm not mistaken, have some kind of law that prohibits items of certain shapes and/or sizes to be hanging from the rear view mirror because it does act as a distraction and can obstruct your view.

Its true, its revenue both ways since police assign court dates on their days off so they can get comp time or overtime. Mason,OH asked that the county boys not issue dates on their days off because they were paying out so much money to them. I think their "revenue" came to a stop. I travel 71n daily and would see at least 1 cop when entering warren county alot of times 2 per day. after they asked them to change court dates i was lucky to see 1 a week.

I meant if the warning was true, but thanks for the tidbit. It's definitely interesting. (I also meant the police *shouldn't* be used as a revenue stream, not that they weren't being used that way.)

CA law does not allow anything hanging on the rear view mirror and anything attaching to the front windshield so those portable GPS devices suppose to be stick onto the dashboard.

lol. i drove from charlotte to marietta, OH last night. left at 7 and got there 1am-ish. left this morning and drove the rest. got in today at 4:30.

i sometimes like roadtrips. i was on business and didn't get airfare because i was planning on making it a mtn biking trip. however, my wife needed some help this weekend with a church project so that got nixed. i took my 3yo w/me and we stayed at my parents' house outside of charlotte. it's only 730 miles or so. lotsa time to listen to books on cd.

Something hanging from the rearview can be a blessing at times. They'll never pull you over for it, but if they get you for speeding and you give them a good sob story, "obstructed view" ticket is one way they can cut you a break. I got pulled over in the rain once and stopped under an overpass so the cop wouldn't get wet. 77 in a 65 turned into an obstructed view because of my air freshener.
