it sucks but insurance companys make it a chargeable claim if you have to file one after hitting a pot hole and your car is damaged .

i have first hand knowlege of this .after making a claim for 2 blown out tires on the right side of a car ,one new rim ,2 trim rings ,towing to a garage .
they said the car was a moving .i was driving and it was charged on the broadened side of the insurance policy but i did get a rental for the time the car was in the shop waiting on parts and being repaired !

Keep tires properly inflated. (You can’t eyeball it. Use a gauge.)
Leave extra space between you and the car in front of you, and look farther down the road than usual.
Slow down if you see cars ahead swerving.
Watch for puddles, which sometimes conceal deep potholes.
If you have to drive over a pothole, slow down and brake gently before you hit it. Hold the steering wheel firmly.
Don’t speed or brake over a pothole. You can seriously damage your car or lose control and crash.
If you hit a pothole hard, look for bent or broken wheels and leaking fluids. Listen for scraping or grinding sounds. See a mechanic right away if you suspect damage

Around here, I think that you have to demonstrate that the city had been made aware of the pothole and had not responded to repair it in a reasonable time. But it's worth a try to contact the city.

The last stretch of road to my company's buildings had gotten horrible a few weeks ago (I think we are the only company that uses that stretch of road for now). I mentioned it to the human resources guys when they were walking by and suggested that our facility manager contact the city and complain (thereby putting the city on notice of the problem). A few days later the city was out filling in the potholes.

you are correct the city will pay for it! you have to record the time that it happened, take a picture of the actually pot hole and when you have your rims repair give them a copy of the bill, and they should send you the funds back.

I actually cracked my 19inch brabus rim, and the rim was fixed but it was not working well...so i got a brand new rim paid for and the city reembursed me...its very laborous! but if you forking out a grand a rim...then its totally worth it!

Pipe dream in NOLA. There's a pothole every 12 feet or so. Nagin "declared war" on potholes years ago while campaigning, but then forgot about it. NOLA has probably the worst streets in the country for the size/type of city.

I haven't even gotten my wheels aligned in years. Yes, my tires wear a little unevenly, mainly in the front, so I keep good ones on the back, but an expensive alignment would just get knocked out on the way back home. Seriously, it sucks having a kinda-nice car in NOLA. Streets suck. Drivers suck. Hit and run. Tear off your bumpers in parking lots and don't leave notes. Long key scratches. Front behind-bumper skirt torn off twice due to potholes, lots of rim scratches and dings on the stock, but $$ wheels.

Sometimes I can't wait to get out of this damn city. But if, after I finish my contract for residency in another year, I have an opportunity to make some good $$, I'll probably stay, but move to a suburb. Before the storm there were about 200 psychiatrists. Now, with about 1/3 the population back, there are about 30. So there's big demand, so it might be worth hanging around for a year or two. Then again, my home state of MS is in a similar situation, and I've gotten some offers already.

But I ramble.

H <----didn't mind potholes when he had his old '91 Camaro. With my current car....aaaaargh! And because the local stealership lied to me during its inspection, I now have to replace the control arm bushings. Stealership wanted $850+. Local specialty shop wants $170+parts. Guess who'll get the job.
