Auto Shipper

I'll be moving to the Washington DC area at the end of July and was hoping somebody here could recommend an auto shipping company. I would love to drive my car back cross-country, but I am not going to have the time for that.

TIA

I've never used one. Ebay suggests DAS The prices seem resonable.

This reminds me of my college days when we'd try to find "drive-a-way" cars from Chicago to Florida (where I lived) at times like spring break. Those drive-a-way outfits were about as sleazy as anything I have ever dealt with. (I don't have any idea if DAS is one of that type of places.)

But I did get to drive a new 1973 Chevrolet Caprice from Chicago to Miami in August of 1972 (before the cars were released - we were told NOT to go to a dealer if we had any trouble). A local car dealer was sending it down to Miami for his mother, and we drove the 1972 Caprice (with 3000 miles on it) back. Driving that 1973 (I think that was the year) was interesting, because that was the year of a major redesign for the new "5mph bumpers". My hippie friend and I got major attention at gas stations - once as we pulled away I noticed all the attendants (this was before self-service days) in the station were standing in a line looking at our car while all the other cars at the station were being neglected.

Another time a friend and I drove a new Fury (it was a company car being delivered to a Ryder executive) from Chicago to Seattle, except that we wrecked in Spearfish, South Dakota. (When we called the Ryder guy to tell him, he asked what color the car was, and when we told him "green" he said, "I wanted blue - I'm glad you wrecked it!".

I've received several recommendations for DAS. Maybe that's the way to go.
