Buying a Motorcycle...some advice
im planning on buying a used motorcycle this season and just needed some help on finding them online. i checked on craigslist, monkeyads, ebay and cycle trades. if anyone knows any other websites that have used motorcycle classifieds, id appreciate the help. btw im planning on buying a 2001 or later street bike like a GSX-R, YZF-R, Ninja ZX-R or a CBR-RR. But of course if the price range is good im willing to look at anything. looking to spend aroung $4000-$4500. again, i appreciate the help.

How much experience do you have with motorcycles?
The simplest thing, if you're a new rider and want something to break, is getting an older CBR in the 200cc range. If you MUST spend $4000, a great choice (IMO) is the Buell Blast. 492cc, easy to handle, and enough power that you won't get sick of it within a year. Unless you ride it a lot. Then you may get sick of it within six months.

if you want a really nice beginner sport - the suzuki sv650. most people rave about them as starter bikes. light, comfy and easy to handle. They are about 4-5k used.
my first was a honda cb-1 (400cc) its a collectors bike now. if you can find one they are prolly about $2k or less... visit different riders boards of the bikes you are thinking of buying. there should be some sort of "for sale" forum there. Bikes sold by those people are in really good shape and they usually priced according to what they are worth. something like this http://www.yamahasportbike.com/forums/ http://www.600rr.net/vb/index.php ride safe..

If not, I'd say go for maybe a CBR600 F4i as opposed to the RR... it'll save you a little bit of money, and probably won't notice much difference. |

My first bike was a 97' GSXR 600. my second bike was a 01' GSXR 600. im pretty fond of Suzuki GSXRs, but i was thinking of getting a different bike this season. maybe a 636 ninja or something. just running out of resources to find used bikes.

Honda Rebel 250. It won't get you laid, but it will be fun, easy to ride and you can wad it up without breaking the bank. Oh, and please spend as much as you can afford on a good helmet. Plan on $150 or more to save your cranium.
T edit - buy a t-bucket. safer than a bike and won't depreciate. ![]()

....destroyed. 97'GSXR crashed 2 years ago. 18yr old girl just got her license made a u-turn w/o looking and i t-boned her at 40mph. i was in the hospital for 1 month, had to get a rod in my femur. 01'GSXR crashed last year. riding with a few of my friends on the freeway, goin kinda fast. some guy, i guess he got nervous, cut me off when i was trying to pass him. he was going maybe 60mph, i was going 130mph. ended up in the hospital again for a month. had to get a few plates and rods, but i think i got away pretty lucky. driver was never found. why would i get another bike? well, im really passionate about riding and i cant see myself not riding. it sounds retarded but, to me, its worth the risk, even after 2 bad accidents. all my friends think its a dumb idea and are convinced im gonna crash again or end up dead but i dont ride for them. i dont ride to get chicks, i dont ride to impress people (well not all the time), and i dont ride for anyone but me. i ride cause i seriously enjoy it. and anyone who has a bike knows exactly what im talking about. btw. i might end up buying a 2003 ZX-6R. its all blue with black rims, gold forks and gold brakes. under 5k miles. buying it for $4200. talked from $4500. anyone think its a good price? should i hold out alittle longer and see if i can get a better deal? except for the chrome rims and the carbonfiber fender this bike looks exactly like the one im thinking about buying. ![]() Last edited by roboo7 : 05-11-2007 at 10:32 PM. |

Yes - run, don't walk away. The legitimate owner should have no problem getting a title. I would bet my last dime that whoever is in possession of the bike right now is in possession of stolen property.
