no cars with keyless entry.... when you lock them as yuior walking away... they honk to tell you "yes sir all sealed up here cap'in" my car never did this i ahve had it for around three years and it has never done this three days ago it started just randomly it started honking when i hit the lock on the keyless entry at first it starlted me now every time i lock it i hit it like six time snad it honks right back six times Any ideas why this would suddenly just start like this??/

You must have armed it by hitting the red flashing button accidentally.

Year, make, model, engine size? It might help if we knew what we were looking at...

For my subaru there is a sequence of buttons I can press on the remote to turn the honking on/off. Maybe you accidentally hit that sequence for your remote? There were instructions written on the back of my key fob.

yep yep. I turned my chirper off
![]() Now if you guys can figure out why mine works sometimes and doesn't other times (remotely unlock and lock). That would be great! I can remotely lock it as I go into a store, but when I come out, it won't unlock. And of course those are the days I have my arms full of Patrick and shopping bags. I know sometimes it is a hit and miss on base because of the freq. the remotes use is also used on base by equipment but doesn't explain why it does it 5-10 miles away. ![]() (btw, same car ) |

is there any way to turn it off on a 97 VW Jetta? Mine's started doing that a few months ago, but i dunnno how i did it. and i don't have a remote keyless entry thing. it chirps when i lock the doors. and then the annoying part is the alarm goes off if i lock the doors and then open the trunks with the doors locked(alarms armed). i have to get out of my car, go to the back to open the trunk, get everything i need, then go back and lock the door. |

Probably, but I don't have any repair info or an owner's manual for one. Try searching the VWvortex Forums. Maybe someone will have an answer there. |

Do you have more than one remote? If so, does the problem occur regardless of which one you're using? Try the other one and see if you have two. if the other one works better the problem's with the remote - if both of them are "hit-and-miss" the problem's receiver-related... |

It is a remote issue. Here's a funny for you. I don't think it's related. When we bought the car, about a year later, Donnie started having the issues with his remote (his is #2). Then over last summer, his started working and mine stopped when I got home from my mom's (I was there over the summer).
And as for the video LOL I had a friend who used to do that back in the 90's - I always thought he was pulling my leg with that! But when my remote started acting up, it was one of the first things that popped in my head! But the remote will do it when I am next to the car, when I am not near the car. There is no pattern to when it works and not works. Sometimes it will work a good distance away, the next it won't. The next time I am right by the car, and nothing, the next time, it works. I called my dealer's garage place and the guy told me to stand near the hood of my car near the driver's door and hold both lock and unlock buttons down for about 3 min. He said that should have reset it. It didn't do a thing. We have taken the fuse out that disables the starter- we haven't used that in a long while - longer than this issue. He wanted me to bring it in - it's not covered apparently and I really don't want to pay $200+ for them to reset it. I am okay using a key - it's very retro and retro is in ![]() |
