That's gonna be seriously expensive.

Definitely more than an average car payment for a month. Depending on the size of the car, you'd probably be lookin' at around $175 to $350 per week (assuming $25 to $50 per day).

Last time I rented for a month was about 2000. A Continental for $900.00 from Budget Rental. I cried when I signed the ticket.

I have rented a car for a month quite few times in the past. You are looking at about $900-1k/month. It is expensive. Why do you need to rent a car for a month?

if you *have to* rent for a month, and if your insurance rate thru the rental company is included, then you should probably suspend your regular insurance. sometimes it's cheaper to go with the rental company's, sometimes your own.

Doesn't suspending your insurance cause your rates to go up when you restart it? I would imagine that you will not save much and if he is renting a car because his is supposed to be in the garage for an extended period of time he probably cannot suspend his insurance on that vehicle.

Cheesy - how about some more info, please?

it's actually for my parents, they're coming back to the states from hk for a month, and they're gonna be traveling around 6000+ miles from CA to WI to TX and back to CA. yah...it's gonna be one hefty trip for them. hhehe...sorry i wasn't clear in the first post. but yeah...we're not gonna be suspending insurance.

i know when i rent a car. there a different rate charged if its to go out of the state you rented it in .also a per mile fee so be very care full and read the fine print .also i have heard they have tracking devices added to the rental cars. so if this is true they may get in a lot of b.s.

check with Enterprise. I am in a car through their month or more program and the first month I think I paid 600 bucks for an intermediate sized car. It's not the nicest car out there, but it beats paying what the others were asking.

As reno said, just make sure there isn't a mileage component of the rental. I know for most rentals the mileage component doesn't kick in unless you are returning the rental car to a different location but it may different for a montly rental. Not sure if you have access but if you belong to any airline or hotel loyalty programs, you can sometimes get reduced rates.

I would also suggest renting from a non-airport location. Might not seem like a big deal at first but most airport locations charge big "tourist taxes" (sometimes as much as 15% on top of the state and local taxes) on their rentals and sometimes even a flat "airport" fee. Plus the rates are usually a little higher at an airport location compared to a "local" location that is right around the corner from the airport location. Hope this helps.

check hotwire I have gotten 7.95/a day rentals before. If you can pick up at a major airport after 1pm on a monday you will have a very high chance of being upgraded.

I just returned a car from enterprise for 40 days at 25 bucks a day. So a bit over 1 G after taxes. Luckily the bill went straight to insurance. But yeah I think you get a deal for long terms.
