Did you check for a burnt fuse first? I would.

BTW.. just make sure. The fuses for the cigarette lighter can be in more than one place (I know in my car there is a hidden fuse panel in the trunk as well as one under the hood.)

When my cigarette lighter blew, the guy located the proper fuse and replaced it. It worked after that.

This is inserted T-end first into the lighter socket - the ends of the T fit into two square holes in the sides of the socket to release it. Once the tool is snapped into place it is used to pull the lighter socket and wiring harness up out of the mounting hole.

Kent-Moore wants a mint for this, but check with your local Murray's / AutoZone / etc. The HELP! line of parts may have a replacement lighter socket that comes packaged with a plastic removal tool. I know I bought one at Advance or AutoZone fairly recently.
