Post odd suction windshield mounts laws

weard law i just read - while reading about GPS systems

What’s the difference between installed and portable GPS systems?
Portables, however, are catching up and can be used in different vehicles, including rental cars. Units usually are easily mounted on the windshield or dash. (California and Minnesota laws prohibit using suction windshield mounts while driving.)

Yeah pretty much anything that can "obscure the view of the driver" in any way shape or form.

...unless the object is a radar unit and the driver is a policeman.

Uhh.. I think "Unless the driver is a policeman" pretty much makes all of the driving laws null and void.

No Cell Phones and driving? Not if I'm a cop!

My GPS is dash mounted (I have a plate on my dash for it to adhere to). In mounting it, it is well below the windshield line so that I have a good view of the road and it doesn't obscure my view.

Pretty much I'm sure that they don't want anything up in the "line of sight" (including Garfield. )

at least in CA, i don't think they'll stop you if you they see you have a gps mounted on your window, but if they stop you for speeding or something, they can tag on an additional ticket for having a window mounted gps mount. at least for me, i've driven by many of cops who i'm pretty sure saw i had a window mounted gps, and they didn't stop me. but then again...i'm prolly pushing my luck...

Thats great.

It looked like Garfield was mounted to a side window which is ok. It's just the front window that gets you in trouble.
