Ronnie Van Zant was often seen onstage wearing a Neil Young Tonight's the Night tour t-shirt.



Neil wrote the song Powderfinger with the intention of giving it to Ronnie for Skynyrd to record.

There are many misconceptions about both men.

Circa mid-'70s, my hometown (Charlottesville, VA):



This tasty '55 had a pretty stout 327 and four-speed in it. I used to run around with the son of the man who owned both the car and the auto parts store in the background.

They lived on a private road just outside the city limits. My buddy got into trouble one day not long after this photo was taken. After doing some work on the '55, he ran it down to the end of their road and did a drag-race style launch. Just as he was about to grab second gear, he discovered that he had failed to securely latch the hood down. How? The hood flipped up, wrapping itself over the top of the car's roof and obliterating the windshield...
