It happens here, too:

i despise the intrusion of speed cams and red light cams into our lives.
have you guys been in phoenix recently? It's like a police state there. Traffic cams and speed cams everywhere. It feels very unpleasant.

I apparently got tagged by one in Phoenix in August. Hertz sent me notification that they received a ticket, and they apparently told the authorities that I was the one who rented the car. I've received no notification from the authorities, though. From what I understand, I can ignore anything they mail to me. It does not count as being properly served. They then have 120 days to track me down and properly serve me in person. Good luck with that while I'm 2000 miles away (Of course, I'm knocking on wood now, too).

Yeah, well, that's what happens when you have a state full of cranky old people. I was happy when red light cams were found unconstitutional here a few years back, yet I notice that they are still installing them - just in case, I guess. Even though they've only been proven to increase revenue, not safety.

Well, traffic cops don't enforce safety rules, they generate revenue. Why would traffic cams be any different?
