Acura says to bring my car in for an oil change every 3,750 miles. Should I listen to them or should I do it every 3,000? and if i should do it every 3750, why?

thanks!

I believe oil changes are one of those things that you'd like to do as frequently as possible. Car manuals usually state their intervals for good/ideal conditions, but with city driving (stop 'n go) and what not, most all places recommend 3000 miles / 3 months for all cars.

I just looked in the manual again and it says every 7,500 miles for normal driving conditions, or 3,750 for severe driving conditions. BTW, the car is a 2000 Integra.

With the oils that they have today, it really shouldn't be that big of a deal.

BUT... it's cheap insurance, if you will. Yeah, you may end up paying a bit more as the oil changes stack up but who knows how much pain you could have avoided by not doing it every 3k.

I actually just read a post on the Porsche mailing list I subscribe to from a guy who, as an experiment, left the same oil in his car for 35,000 miles. He changed the filter every 4000 and tested the car and oil extensively every time he changed the filter. Guess what - the lack of oil changes made NO NOTICEABLE DIFFERENCE in either the car's performance, engine operation, or even oil performance. He made all these tests with the help of a race mechanic, too, and he's part of a real PCCA racing team, so I'm assuming they were done properly. He finally changed the oil because it was freaking him out to have 35,000 mile-old oil in his car, but you get the picture.

I'm not saying you shouldn't change your oil, but it seems that the old "every 3000 miles" adage no longer holds true for modern engines and oils. Pretty interesting, huh?

eh, just change the oil whenever you can...integras are easy to change the oil and the oil filter, so if you have the time, you should do it yourself, it's fun =)...

I do it every 7500 to 10k, using synthetics. If I'm on dino, I'll do it every 5k-7500. While I'd like to attempt that Porsche dude's idea, I can't. The filter in my car is the old cartridge style. I have to drain all the oil before I even try to open the filter case.

Alas, it is you who doesn't know jack squat, Hapoo. If you can hear anything from outside the car with your stereo on... you need some more subwoofers.

Question

Would 4 10" and 2 12" be enough??

Depends.

- When parked and with stereo on, do your windows/windshield/whatnot threaten to jump off the body of your car to join the pavement?
- Can you hear yourself in your head after 15 minutes in the car with the stereo on?
- Are you still capable of rational thought 20 minutes in?
