So I'm looking at a new car, and I have to say, black paint looks absolutely dynamite. However, one of the guys in the office is imploring me not to get one; he has a black Camaro, and he says it was the biggest mistake when he bought the car. Now, he has to wash it every week for it to look good, and with the superhard water we have down in LA, he says there's no end to the water spots.

I'm wondering this: is he just exagerrating, or is black paint actually that tough to keep up? I have a silver car now, and hell, an elephant could take a crap on it, and you'd still think it was clean.

Thoughts?

i had a black car, and yeah, i guess there was alot of water spots on it.

come to think of it, i could never get them off. it was like they were burned into the paint. and then the SWIRLS. the dumbass who did bodywork on my car after someone hit it though he was doing me a favor by shining my car with the power buffer, yeah, thanks for all the swirl marks jackass.

it was a pain i guess, but really, you can only see these things if you are about a foot away. and black looks so nice, so i would go for it!

Don't get black unless you really love the way it looks. Take it from me (4 black cars so far).

Yeah, that's what I needed to know. I'm looking at getting a CL Type-S, and it looks just deadly in black, but if it only looks that way the day I drive it off the lot, then there's no point is there. *sigh* I guess another silver car for me...

Black paint is an incredible bitch to keep up with. If you really like to keep yoru car looking sleek then you'll have fun each weekend for about 3 hours =P Or maybe you can afford to pay someone to do it. Either way, yes it is a bitch. Especially if you have a dumb wife / girlfriend who will run her open the door with her fingernails touching the paint or who leans up agaisnt the car with zippers!

Silver is always a great color for an expensive car. And like you said it doesn't get dirty easily. I have a silver car and I only wash it once a month. It still looks great. And if it's a sports car, dark metalic blue is also spectacular.

A properly taken care of black car looks like no other color though. I guess it's a tradeoff. After a proper wash/wax with good quality products, black looks a LOT deeper than any other color (with a good paint job, of course) and has a deep, liquid look to it.

I certainly don't debate that. I just don't have the energy/time/money to keep it looking good all the time. Washing the thing would probably take around an hour/hour and a half every weekend, and frankly, while I love cars, it just seems to be an unneeded pain in the arse.

I totally the agree.. the time needed to maintain it just seems a little too much for my liking.. for that hour/hour and a half.. I'd rather be here in the forums.. hahaha!

actually the same goes for white cars too... pain in the bungholioooooo.....

Don't I know it! I have a silver car now, and like I said, it would have to take QUITE a bit of dirt to make it look dirty.

The only reason I hesitate is that both the CL and the TL look powerfully Honda-esque (that ain't a compliment) and they look pretty damn good in black. The silver is super-Honda-y, so it gives me pause. Oh well...

Silver it is, methinks.

For a second I thought you were talking about the Benz C class. Then I saw TL (T class?)...So it'll be an Acura? Well, then you can't really do anything about the Hondaesqueness. They are Hondas...Where do you live? I guess depending on the climate(rain?) and polution(dust?), black could be be harder or easier to maintain....

My car's silver, too, and the rain cleaned it nicely, EXCEPT for my damn spoiler. See, my car has a solid spoiler attached to the hatch, so stuff just collects there when it rains - I get a nice lake on the back of my car. Annoying, plus it leaves a bunch of dirt there when the water evaporates, and there's no good way to clean it. Oh well, the rest of the car looks reasonable.

My 2001 C320 is silver and it stays pretty clean for the most part. My last car was black so I've decided to not make the same mistake again. I've seen several black C classes on the road and they're looking pretty horrible. Esp since this car has only been out in production for about 6 months or so.
