Don't think I still wouldn't mind a new M3 or 996 turbo.

Pulled up next to this at a gas station on my way home to Laramie, WY from Dallas, TX with the car.

yes, it is a turbo.

Nice! That's the thing about american cars. Plenty of displacement and plenty of available mods. Must be a monster!

American Muscle Rules

I am a diehard ford fan. Great car. Check out the 10 liter they have at the ford svt website. Killer car.

My dad has a 70 Mach 1. Its a 428 with the shaker hood. Good do i miss the "real" ramair cars. We need more people like you on this board. There is too many BMW and VW lovers.

Theres nothing wrong with german cars, but the american muscle is still king.

It only oversteers a bit...

The quickness of the turn in beats the snot out of my Countour SE. With road race tires I'm sure it will be a pleasure to drive at an autocross.

If only the bloody nvidia WDM drivers would work with Windows XP... I would digitize some autocross video I have of me in the contour.

Yeah, I love driving American muscle, but I can't afford to own any.

that wont be too much fun. you could probably fix it with some new tires and some better shocks. maybe some crossbars might help with stability

I meant power on oversteer, not just around town.

It has kenny brown strut tower braces front and rear, fully adjustable koni road race struts all around, and ford motorsport progressive rate springs.

It handles great, it just gets a little wild with some throttle. In fact, I can't wait until next summer for autocross.

Mustangs that I love:

65-66 Fastback, especially Shelbys
69-70 Mach 1
79 Pace Car
I can't get too excited about any of the other ones. I especially disliked the Mustang II, the current version and the previous version, which looked like a Mustang II on steroids. And all of the other Shelbys were too large . If they don't get serious about style, they are going to go the same route as the Firebird and Camaro.

All this talk makes me think of the 1987-ish Firebird I want to build. I'm shifting gears with the plan for the engine. So far it's looking like roughly 550 hp....

Ok - revised plan. Understand that my premise here is "too much is just enough".

A 415 small block Chevy with a Bill Bitchell block, Scat crank, Edelbrock E-Tec heads, MiniRam III from TPIS using SDS EFI, and 4L80E tranny. Numbers show 391hp and 451tq. This is Stage One.

Stage Two calls for a single intercooled turbo with 10-ish lbs of boost. That should take it to about 657hp and 757tq. That's why the 4L80E and not the 4L60 - the 4L60 would be torn to pieces.

CarTest shows 0-60 in 3.2 seconds, and the 1/4 mile in 11.5 @ 130.4.

Golly.

What rear axle ratio? 1/4 Mile times are heavily dependent on Size of tires and rear axle ratio.
Also, most horsepower and torque ratings are at the flywheel; they are rarely at the tires/wheels. You would be surprised at the MAJOR reduction at the rear tires when put on a dynamometer.!

Those acceleration numbers assume a 7000 rpm redline and a 2.8:1 rear end - with these I can actually hit 60mph in 1st gear. Also, this is running a turbo, so there's no boost umntil about 15mph or so from a full stop. This significantly helps the 0-60 time. When the shift into 2nd occurs, the engine rpms drop back down into a range where more torque is being made, and the tires go up in smoke - hence the extra time for the 1/4 mile.

This is a street vehicle, not a race car, so no slicks for me. Slicks would of course help harness much more power on the 1-2 shift, which would help the 1/4 mile time.

Since this thread is now way off topic, i'm going to add my posts to my own Project Firebird thread.

Nice sleeper, it'll fool a couple SS Camaro and WS6 Trans Am drivers who are used to smoking Cobras, I also can't think of any European imports that would give it any trouble in a stoplight to stoplight drag, short of a 550 Marenello(sp).
