Nice Ford Contour for Sale, if anything check out the audio

More at: http://uwadmnweb.uwyo.edu/Zoology/contweb/

With Apex's permission, I am posting this. If you are looking for a quick, nimble car for a low price and low miles, you should seriously consider this car or another Contour V6 or SVT.

I recently purchased a new Mustang Cobra, and can't afford to keep my Ford Contour. It is in fantastic mechanical condition, with new brakes, tires, and exhaust. The only thing it needs is a new windshield, as there is a crack that start 4 inches or so below driver eye level, heads over to the passenger, and then heads up, close to where the passenger would be looking out. The driver side, driver side bolster support is starting to show some wear.

I am asking slightly book, as the car is in amazing condition and drives like brand new. I want $6250 for it.

Here are some details:
1995 Ford Contour SE
74k Miles, 44k on Engine (threw a rod just after I bought it)
Tan with Tan interior, OEM ground effects
OEM Fog Lights
15" OEM Aluminum Wheels
205/60/15 118mph Rated All season tires
2.5L 170hp V6
Four Speed Automatic Transmission, can hold in 1st & 2nd (it will take off in 2nd if 2nd is selected, not first like most cars)
Traction Control (all speed)
Four Wheel disc brakes w/ ABS
Tan Leather Interior, Front bucket seats
A/C, Tach, Cruise, Power Doors, Mirrors, and Locks, floormats,
Clarion 4" Component speakers on plates in front doors
Pioneer 5x7/6x8 Speakers in rear doors
Factory AM/FM Tape player, as I am removing my CD-Player
60/40 Fold down rear bench
K&N Air filter, Superchip

It gets around great in the ice, as it does have traction control to keep the front wheels hooked up. The engine has a sweet sound note when you get on it and the transmission shifts firm with the addition of the superchip(no real horsepower advantage, just makes the car feel sportier). It is super nimble, even for a four door car.

I have autocrossed it twice (think parking lot w/ cones). My first time I put down a honda civic, dodge neon r/t, olds alero v6, and a caviler, and the moved me up to the next class. My second time out, my best time was a 2:25. The best mustang cobra time was a 2:17. I belive this says something for the handling of the car, as I was carrying amazing corner speeds. This is probably the most abuse I have ever given this car.

If you want pictures, I will have them when the snow melts and I can wash it up a bit. Sanded wet roads don't make for a nice looking car. I do have some sound files, both inside and outside of the car if you want to hear it while I was autocrossing (my video capture card works for ****, or I would have video.)

If interested, email me @ sjustin4@qwest.net. Call at 307-745-5049 if you wish. I am in Laramie, WY by the way, about 120 miles from Denver, CO.

Thanks!

You must copy the link and paste it into your address bar for these to work.

This is doing a 180 degree turn with a radius of one cone... exit speed about 15mph, shift is at 45 or so. 65 when I let off.

Quick downshift outside the car:

A bit of drifting, then full throttle through first and shift into second, from outside of the car.

This is what dragstrips are good for. Here is some autocross footage showing handling.

Seems pretty high for a 7 year old car. I don't know if Hondas that year are even bringing that kind of money.

Going rate is about $7k for basic (no leather, no ABS, etc) 4-cylinder Accords and Camrys in Atlanta, I think. It really depends on where he's at, I guess.

Not to crap on your post but hows the paint job?
I know that when I was up in snowy weather, my old car rusted within the 2 years I was there.

The paint is in amazing condition. Besides the front end (bumper, right fender, and hood) just recieving a new paint job (somebody's trampoline blew over my front end and he had to pay for it), I have always washed it at least once every two weeks no matter what the weather. There is no rust, and the paint is still in like new condition all around the car. Of course, there are a few very small knicks around the fenders from being driven 73,000 miles, but nothing bad. Today is finally a good day to wash it, so I'm off to do that right now. Pictures to come.

not to crap on your post either, and i hope you sell it, but not to someone on this board... you woudl agree with me that you wouldn't want any of the nice peopl eon this board being stuck with what's basically a lemon car...

let me clarify. My friend has this exact same car. V6, '95 etc. Great car (BTW, its only worth about $4000 in oklahoma where the cost of living is cheaper). Now, the other day, he's driving down the highway, and the engine starts to make a nasty noise. So he pulls over, pushes in the cluth, and the engine dies. Now it won't even turn over.

After talking to our mechanic friend (who rebuilds slightly wrecked cars for a living) we found out that whats happened, is that the rod bearings got soo much play in them, that they overheated, and when the car stopped, they basically acted like solder and welded themselves together and siezed the engine.

Also, he said that they will NOT even get near a Ford Contour to rebuild it. The dead cars are worth about $500 (if that) and the motors are over $2500.

so basically he's gonna junk the car and try to buy something else.

now like i said, i dont mean to crap on your post, bt i think you'll agree that the nice fellow-apexers wouldnt be very well off with a car that has that "issue"... I do hope you can sell it though (so you dont end up having that problem) to some poor sucker (aren't i mean?)

I wouldn't necessarily take one instance and apply it to every contour on the road though. Unless that was reoccuring thing where there have a lot of complains then maybe. It could be an isolated case.
I had my mx6 for 7 years and after the 6th year all sorts of stuff started to happen and my transmission started going out. I may not ever buy that car again, but I know of many people with the same exact car and they are very happy with it.

[edit:had to add the N'T on the word WOULD] Sorry if I confused anyone.

Uhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. I'm in disbelief that you would take one instance of this and assume all cars have the issue, much less take a dump as large as that on my post.

Anyway, after owning the car for three years now and being an avid reader of the mailing list and now the forums at contour.org, I have never heard of this. Motor failures occur in all cars, and if the motor dies in the car is going to be worth squat.

I have pictures, so let me compress them a bit and post them somewhere.

sorry - the only reason i mentioned it was not because of teh isolated incident, but because the mechanic friend, knows other mechanics, and none of them will work on the contour. They dont sell in the auto-auctions either.

But hey, this obviously doesnt happen to EVER contour, or maybe even a very large percentage... i donno. maybe i should've kept my mouth shut.

sorry.

My newspaper has a '98 Contour Sport with 60,000 miles for $5800 at a local new car dealer.

hehe shoeish. Looks like this just isn't the best place to sell cars. Don't let these guys discourage you. I'm sure you'll have better luck locally.

BTW, it might help if you get rid of that pic in your first post. It shows a ghost sitting on your car. I don't know, just thought it might freak some people out.

Bump for ya, Shoeish.

If you were closer to Wisconsin, I know someone
who would probably jump at buying that... but
I think the distance is a little too much...

Good luck!

I would be more than happy to meet someone somewhere or pick them up at the airport in Denver, CO (so they don't have to pay $1000 to fly from denver to Laramie).

Just to let you know.
