Excitement on the freeway!!

I was driving back from LA after Thanksgiving break and was going 110 mph cause it was 8am and almost no cars were on Highway 5. I realized I was almost out of gas. I quickly swerved off to an exit that I almost missed and although I tried to slow down the curve of the off ramp was too sudden and I spun out and slid off the road onto a field of gravel. The most exciting part about it was as I flew off the road I managed to slip right between a huge roadsign and an RV parked along the road. The funny thing about these near-death experiences is that you are surprisingly calm throughout. My heart wasn't even pounding at all when I finally managed to stop the car(about 50 yards away from the road). I calmly started the engine again and got back on the road as if nothing had happened. I'm sure there are people who can relate to the phenomenon I'm talking about. Please share your stories.

OY. . . 110 on the 5. Pfft, my friend tops that. He got up to 129 trying to catch me. Moral of the story is, don't get caught. Piggy cited him for 118. . . But its all for good laughs right?

Yeah - I know what you mean. I was driving along a two lane highway when this drunk coming the other direction suddenly locked up her brakes and skidded into my lane directly in front of me. I slammed on my brakes, and I remember going over several options in my head as I was going toward her car - should I hit it? Should I swerve into the other lane? Should I swerve to the right and jump the curb? I swear it was less than a second before I would have hit her, but it seemed like I had all the time in the world to make a decision. I swerved to the right & didn't hit anything, thank goodness.

After she got out of her car she started babbling about how this guy cut her off, which is why she slammed on her brakes. Funny thing is, we were the only cars on the road at the time. Unfortunately, she hopped back into her car & took off before the cops got there. I gave them her license plate number, but I don't know if they ever picked her up.

coming back from the amd thing, it was stop and go traffic on the highway...
I was on the right most lane, and there was a car on the middle lane about 2 feet behind me and plenty of room otherwise.... So, the car in front of me starts signallin like he's gonna change lanes and I'm thinkin, if he goes, I gots a little room, and I can speed up a little, and move into there right behind him...
all of a sudden, the guy in front of me brakes, right when I started pushing on the gass.....I quickly brake, and make a controlled swerve into the shoulder. I stopped about 5 feet beyond the 'collision' point

I followed this thunderbird SC on I-25 north for a while going about 120mph... when both lanes opened up I ripped past him at 145 or so.

I will stick to speeds below 100 MPH. I like all of my bones too well to take those kind of chances.

2 years ago I blew my rear tire on HWY 5 going about 90. I fish-tailed but somehow I didn't spin out. I barely missed a semi in the right lane next to me as I was swerving all crazy. it tore off part of my bumber. so I calmly changed my tire and kept going. I feel you ucbstan, I was calm the whole time. somthign nice about not panicking...

a few months ago, i was on i-69 in michigan, around 10 pm, going 85-ish (i have a geo prizm.....i can't hit triple digit speeds). i was in the right lane, coming up behind a pickup w/ a trailer being followed by another pickup. as i came right up behind them (they were probably going 55 or so), i moved to the left lane to pass them. at the same time, the truck in back tried to pass the truck with the trailer. basically, he cut right in front of me, but he was going 30 mph slower than i was. i absolutely locked the brakes, swerved to the right to avoid rear-ending the truck in the left lane, then swerved back to the left to avoid rear-ending the truck with the trailer. i'm not sure how far i skidded, but i ended up spinning about 90 degrees (so my car was pointed toward the median), and skidding off the left shoulder into the median. i came to a stop and that was when my heart started pounding, as i wasn't really sure of everything that had happened. on the other side of the freeway, there was a cop stopped behind a speeder, so i quickly shifted into reverse, pulled back into the road, and drove off as quickly as i could, afraid that the cop would come after me for reckless driving. but he didn't, so it was all good...

I was on my way back from the Jersey shore this summer, with my girl and my best bud. I'm doin' around 75 or so at around 11PM. All of the sudden, a family of deer appear frozen in the middle of the road. I calmly slammed on my brakes, swerved to avoid the deer and kept going. I think the thought of what might have happened scared me more than what did happen.
