I suppose if you just want to be able to say you have a Porsche, they're great, but from a performance/reliability, the 914/916's are kinda junky. The 914's were made in a VW plant, and at the time, VW's build quality was horrible. The car was also rushed from the factory, so some parts were missing. I've heard stories that for a while, they were shipping the cars w/ VW hubcaps b/c the Porsche ones were not in yet. And to top it all off, the 914's had ~80hp from their super tiny engines. Now, the car didn't weight that much, and the weight dist. was perfect, but none of that matters if the thing is falling apart.

i guess the 914 that rutienly gets fastest time of the day is modded pretty good then

actually, i'm not sure what motor the guy has in it, but that little bugger barks like a mustang 5.0

once these little 914's are restored, and done up right, they're pretty cool little cars. Most cars that are 25 - 30 years old need some restoring.

i can gurantee you, that car is in tip-top shape to be beating a car like this modified M3:

actually, i thought they looked pretty good... for stock at least. Maybe not comfortable, but in a lightweight car that you're gonna toss around a lot, then you wand the side bolsters. personally i would like bigger side bolsters than that.

I'm sure that 914 has an engine swap. Or the modified 6 cylinder. If that's the case, then sure, it could beat that M3 hands down. It becomes a weight issue with the M3. Also, the BMW is front engine, which would add to the slower times. Don't get me wrong, I like Porsche's, and the 914 is cool to cruise in, but if I was buying one to race, it'd wouldn't be the one I choose.

what about price-wise? i think the 14 is prolly the cheapest and most-moddable you can find... i donno.

i've actually considered a few in the past. those and some 944's...
044's are too $$ for me though (yeah - i'm cheap!)

Well, after you replace the rusted out floorpan of a 914, the 944 is gonna be close to the same price. And how much is reliablity worth to you?

I tried using carfax.com to dig up the car's odometer readings at annual inspections, but the VIN # seems to be invalid.
