I'm trying to decide between these two cars. These are both around $18k after tax n all.

Honda Civic EX 2002 - Dark Blue
- PICTURE
-for the same price, it will come with ABS brakes, moon roof, 32mpg, 127hp.

or

Mazda Protege 5 - Dark Blue

I really wouldn't get either one. Especially not the protege, it's disgusting. If I had to choose between the two then of course the civic, but it's not that cool of a car either.

they're 2 different classes of cars...no?

civic is sedan and protoge is a 'sport wagon' type thing...

I like the usefulness of the 5 door protoge over the civic...
but....
I'd go for choice number 3...
get a focus or an elantra

I actually like the protege. Its a pretty decent looking wagon. I saw one a few days ago and it looked alright (for a wagon). I don't really care for hondas personally. Just the Civic. The Accords are much nicer.

Neither, I'd put in another $1000 and get a new Accord or something else.

The Protege5 is a great looking little wagon. I drove by one a few months back and an older dude was driving it... I gave him the thumbs-up. It looked sweet.

If you can swing it... I'd look into a Golf GTI with the 1.8T engine.

My God... that'd be a fun little ride. And you'd smoke my A4 any day in that thing.

HP 180; Torque 174 ; EPA City 24; EPA Hwy 31

Then get a performance chip for numbers near 200 Horsepower, 245 ft/lbs torque... just like that.

If $18,000 is the neighborhood... then SERIOUSLY drive this one before you buy any other. You just might love it enough to fork over a little extra dough for it.

I've heard quite a bit about VW's 1.8T engine, all good. Then I test drove a tiptronic (or whatever the VW version of the manu-matic is called) GTI 1.8T. It might just be because there were three people in the car, but it didn't seem all that impressive. In fact it felt about the same as a 5-speed Miata carrying two people. I know the GTI is probably a little heavier, but it just didn't quite rock my world.

Well... of course I meant with the 5-speed

Secondly... only the new 2002 GTI comes from the factory rated at 180HP. The 2001 is rated at 150HP. If you drove a 2001 auto... I understand your view.

But if you've ever driven a chipped-1.8T 5-speed... you'd dig it.
