Does anyone here work at a dealship.

What is a safe estimate on hom much you can talk a dealer down on a brand new car and a previously leased car?

Don't talk down. Get the invoice cost and figure how much of a premium you're willing to pay the dealer. For new cars they get 3% holdback usually which is really "hidden" profit that you can use as negotiating leverage. I paid $50 over invoice for my car (but the dealer kept the holdback and made out nicely himself).

It also depends on the type of car you are aiming for. If the car you want is in very high demand, good luck negotiating anything off. WHat kind of car are you looking at?

Dealers still make out on selling a car... Even at Invoice....

They don't pay close to invoice... They pay what is called tissue...

I think they are calling the average about 12% lower than MSRP... The tissue is also called Factory Invoice...

So you shouldn't pay more than invoice... They are still making a profit of at least 12% then throw in the Holdback...

Hey otherwise they wouldn't be in business... And cars are a big business....

Hope this helps...

Cool... Good Luck...

Can you really get lucky at one of those... Especially with the guys going from a dealership with a ton of cash...?

Just curious... Never had any experience with one...

Where are you going for the Auction...

NYC is not that far away...

I used to live just north... In Rockland..

I think you call that Upstate...

A Passat is a whole-lot more car than a Jetta... and a much better value, overall, in my opinion.
