Are there a lot of really good deals out there?

In the last three weekends, the local paper has been running a bunch of ads for new and used cars. There are a lot of program cars which seem to be pretty cheap. These are rental or fleet cars that are a year old with twenty thousand or so miles on them.
I was asking a truck salesman I know today about this. He said that the recent zero percentage interest promotion was attracting a lot of new car buyers, and that there is a huge glut of used cars on the market.
Anybody hear the same?

You can get some great deals on program cars.

We bought one tonight.

2001 Chrysler Sebring with 20K miles on it. Former rental car.
Everything checks out on it perfectly...

With 20K on it, it's not new, but it's nearly new, and it's
a heck of a lot cheaper than new. Still has a fair chunk of the
warranty left on it.

Worked out perfectly because we needed something reliable,
and cheap. We (hopefully) got that tonight.

One of my former cars was a program car too. 1991 Chevy Lumina I bought in early '93 with 27K miles on it. Ran it up to 173K before I finally sold it. It ran as well the day I sold it as the day I bought it.

As long as you buy from a reputable place, or get them thoroughly checked, program cars can be great buys...

With all the leasing that's been going on in recent years, this has led to a glut of used cars. Used car values have dropped accordingly, because supply is ahead of demand.

Are government car auctions (repossed) the way to go to get a good car for cheap?
