So i waxed my car.....

She looks so pretty i wanted to make love to her, if she doesn't get dirty by tomorrow, then i will take pictures... my question is however, how often should you wax your car, and is there such thing is too often?

dont you just love a freshly waxed car? i remember spending 2 days waxing both of my cars: washing, cleaning, polishing and finally waxing. the wax helped keep the car cleaner too, it was so sweet. from everything ive read, you should wax your car at least once every 3 to 6 months, every month if you have a red or silver car because those colors cause oxidation to occur faster. i used to do it every month, but dont really do it anymore because it takes too damn long.

Ok explain those steps please, washing and waxing i already know. Can't wash it by hand, although i really want to, because i live in NYC and the carwashes kind of suck so i had wipe it down by hand afterwards.

So tell me about that cleaning and polishing please

after i wash my car, i use a paint cleaner (or clay bar) to get even more off than just washing alone. you can always skip this step, but there is a noticable difference. then i use a paint polisher. this gets rid of swirls and other impurities in the paint. it doesnt actually get rid of them, but more like covers them up. you cant get rid of them without repainting or wet sanding. then i wax. needless to say, it takes a loooooooooooooooong time.

you cant wax too often, but you can wash your car too often, especially if you use an automatic car wash which uses brushes. and you cant wax without washing first.

What brand of wax do you guys use. I heard about this stuff http://www.finishfirstpolish.com/ and was reading up on it but I have never tried it, how about you guys. I just got a 99 SLK and want to keep it in prestine condition.

i was using bullet wax, in one of them hand held things with a button, press the button wax comes out, and you wax, but the stupid thing broke within 2 frigin minutes. Although the wax seems to be good. That wax took off a lot of dirt that neither i or the carwash got

umm, wax isnt supposed to take off dirt. do you use an automatic wash or manual? if you do it yourself, make sure you use the brush to get off all the dirt from your car

it's an automatic wash, and then i went over it by hand and a soft wet cloth, after that it dried and i waxed, it removed some dirt.

I've been using zaino bros. on my car and the stuff works great! there's serveral reviews online for their products. The only downside is that unless you live in NJ, you'll have to mail order it... but I think it's worth it.

ive used zymol concours wax before on my bimmer a couple times and its awesome, but its kind of expensive. [sarcasm]just kind of[/sarcasm]. but i would seriously reccomend thier creme or carbon waxes if you can find it under 25 bux a jar. its excellent and lasts a long time. use creme for light colors and carbon for dark colors.

Zymol waxes

We use Zaino Brothers in my apartment. That is some quality stuff. Probably the best stuff for the money.
