Unhappy Is my intake broken?

Ok so I bought this intake right?

And there's 2 small welded pipe openings towards the top of it. But I think the smaller one is plugged because I tried blowing air through it with my mouth and nothing was going through. I also tried sticking a pin through it to see if it could make it through the other side. It didn't.

Am I crazy? Air is supposed to be able to go through the little pipe right? Or was it purposely welded like that?

I can easily hammer a small nail through it to unplug it if someone confirms my assumption.

Maybe it's got a check valve in it... try sucking air through it.

It's probably a vacuum check fitting. Leave it alone.

"Probably"? What if it isn't? Will my car blow up? That wouldn't be cool.

It's to check if the muffler bearings are loose. That and to prevent clogging of the spincter valve.

It's most likely an intake that is "semi-universal" or fits several different models. Most likely, your application doesn't require that fitting so it's not drilled out...

well, i'm going to skip the aglio "never go cheap with car parts" rant here...

the blocked tube is probably used to 'tie up loose ends' meaning, there's prb a breather tube or somethign that was needed with an air box that the open element filter takes care of...and instead of leaving an open hole, the 'hose' is simply a 'hole coverer'

i wouldn't worry about 'blowing up' your engine either...if anything it'll stall of lose power if the airflow from the intake tube is needed for something....

best bet...get a bentley manual for the accord, or even *gasp* a chilton maual and find out exactly what the small hose is going to.

Never looked for import shiz on ebay, o well. thnx
BTw those kind of intakes make a max of 5 hp gain, the best way to get more hP gain it to make an air scoop or vent.
(cold air intakes in bumper work best)

actually passwird, you'll probably loose performance when you put that thing on. You see, your stock intake is most likely taking air from onder a fender or from beind a headlight. Its getting the most cool air it can. The cooler the air, the more dense it is, and the more the fuel will burn, making your car run stronger.

(I can feel a 5 to 10hp difference on my car, going from a 80 degree day to a 40 degree day. Thats with a regular airfilter).

the problem with the "super duper" con air intake is that its sucking air from inside the engine compartment, and this air has already been heated by the engine and exhaust manifolds which are nearby. Since its sucking in warmer air than the stock airbox would normally get, then you're loosing all the the MAYBE max potential 5hp that you could gain.

the trick is to build a "cold air box" around the new cone element that seeals off the air around the filter from the engine, and meets up with the hood. Then you run a direct air feed from somewhere (fender or behind the headlight) into the cold air box. This keeps the cooler air isolated from the motor and makes the cone air filter worth-while.

also, the "ram air intakes" only start being noticably different aroudn 120+ mph. I spoke to several long-time drag racers (the REAL drag racers, not the fake stoplight drage racers) and they pretty much told me just that. Also, the best way to get max performance out of a "hood mod" is to face the "scoop" opening towards the windshield, about 2 - 4 inches away from the windshield. The airflow accross the car comes up and over the bumper, hood, adn when it hits the windshield, the curls UNDER and creates a pretty strong airflow/current where the hood meets the windshield.

$48 shipped for intake system. You got what you paid for. Sound doesn't do anything. I found those rice rockets extremely annoying. Making lots of noise and doesn't go anywhere.

It was $42, not $48, so .

uh, the only thing that really changes your motors sound is the exhaust. The intake will change the sound just a little bit, but not much at all.

Contour, stock exhaust + intake (one that looks a lot like that one).

You can hear that baby inside and out, HUGE difference.

Installed the intake yesterday. There is a very noticable sound difference.

If anyone notices any mistakes I made in the installation, please tell me.

Looks good! As with any K&N filter, don't forget to clean and re-oil it regularly. I just do mine when I change the oil in the vehicle... Conditions and usage will dictate if you need to do it more or less often. I have a Jeep Wrangler so mine sees some dustier conditions. If you don't live in a particularly dusty area, maybe every other oil change will suffice. Just don't forget because the darker K&N filters make it less obvious when they get dirty, especially on the bottom! Enjoy!

It's some no name filter, not K&N.

Here's the before pic if anyone cares.

ABSOLUTELY!!!!

Absolutely wrong that is. Intakes can make a huge difference in the way a motor sounds. I actually like the intake sound without the ricey exhaust sound.
