My shifter thing is shifting even when I dont press the button.
I dunno what you car nuts call it, but my shifter thingy that lets me go to P, R, N, D3, D4, and whatnot is shifting even when I don't press the button at the top. Like pretend I'm driving and I'm in D3, I can just push it up to neutral without pressing the button. Helpz0rs please?

Most autos actually will slide into neutral or up gears without having to press the side button. You have to hold on the lock button only for moving it from park to a gear or from drive to reverse or to move the drive into a lower gear. Basically just for idiot proofing.

Oh, that's kind of a relief I guess. The question came to my mind because today, while driving, my pen fell off the dash and when I thrusted my right arm forward to catch it, I hit it into neutral. I'm pretty sure that shifting while moving is bad for the transmission, but was what I did really really really bad? Or was it just bad?

you should also know that its not the best idea to keep shifting in and out of gear while driving or waiting at a red light. auto trannys arent designed to be shifted that often and doing so can cause excessive wear
