Time for a new car...

My 91 Q45 is on its last leg(again) and I'm now looking for a reliable replacement. Going to miss that big V8 and the 280hp but I cant afford to keep pumping cash into it.

I've narrowed my search down to:
Honda
Accord
SE
coupe

I want drk blue but I'm not sure what colors are available.
It comes with pretty much everything and since its a sedan and it's auto I wont be tempted to try and "fix it up." Found some for around 17k but I hate dealing with car salesman.

The car I really want is that new infinity g35 coupe aka BMW killa( all B fans)! Its like 30k but since I don't know how business will be for the next couple of years, I have to play it safe. Hopefully business takes off and than I can get one next year....

I have between 6-8k for the down. That should keep the payments low and I might pay it off early. Hondas keep their value so in a few years it should still be worth 10k for trade in.

I just thinkng this all through right now. I'm getting some quotes by email and hopefully it won't be a huge hassle.

Guess I'm getting old, I'm not even thinking of getting the v6 coupe for 5k more.

whats your budget? if you are willing to spend a bit more you might want to look at the vw passat. at 21,500 its pretty much loaded. IMO, its got a nicer ride though the engine isnt what you would be used to. it will also probably keep its value better than a honda. and its availible in dark blue.

oh yeah, the g35 is arguably a bimmer killer, and no matter how good of a driver you are, it still wont feel like a bmw

the only problem with getting a passat over a honda is the reliability issue. no doubt, the vw is a solid car, but the honda engine is going to run for a million miles. anything european is more likely to have a lot of problems which will require a lot more money than almost any japanese car. i'm not saying this is for certain, but more often than not, japanese cars tend to cost less to keep. good luck!

if your gonna go with the honda, spring for the ex, its a little more, but that v6 will feel a hell of alot more like th infinite god rest its soul. accord 4 bangers are hellva sluggish, although fast once they get going, if u get the 4 make sure u get the vtec. you can get an acura 3.2 tl type s for around 30 k, and its just a honda so its reliable as all hell.

Not all EX models are V6. They DO make an LX V6. At any rate, you should have some very strong negotiating power since the current model is being replaced with the next generation.

true, japanese cars are definately cheaper to keep but german cars will last just as long as a japanese car as long as they are taken care of. cars like hondas and toyotas need only minimal care where german (BMW, Mercedes, VW) need much more care, but you will usually get a better car. they definately hold thier resale value better (vw is closer to average, but still above. honda's are usually average).

I thought the first few years of Q45's came with lifetime warranties. In fact, I remember that there was a whole bunch of people who were upset when they stopped having that feature. Now I dont remember what year the Q45 first came out, but by my memory 91 would have been pretty close to it. So, what have you been spending all the money on?

You should consider the new Accord coupe with 160hp I4. But dealers try to get rid of those old 6gen Accords so you could get them under invoice price. New Accords are arriving @ the dealers already.

Thanks for all the input!

As far as budget is concerned, I actually have about $7500+ for the down plus the trade in for the Q. I know thats enough to get into a 30-40k car but:
A) I don't want big payments(under $400 a month)
B) The insurance
C) Maintenance
D) Temptation to pump $ into it

I actually like the passat for what it is, but I trust Honda. Peace of mind is everything to me right now.

The accord im looking at has 150hp v-tec 4. I don't want the coupe cuz the insurance is higher and that V6 doesn't feel(isn't) that fast.

I like the TL type-S but I'd rather get the g35 coupe for the $. Notice I am willing to sacrifice a little reliability etc for the car I want.

So far dealers keep telling me the SE Accord is in demand and I got a few quotes for around 17k. $16,888 is the low so far.

I hadn't heard about the lifetime warrantee on the Q. I bought it used so I doubt it applies if it were available. If I can get the master cylinder and some other motor work done, I might be able to wait and get better trade in value.

Things that go wrong on my Q or Nissans in general:
A)Electrical. Stereo's that suck to all that automatic crap. Sunroof.
Its a case of technology overkill. Bose overengineered and made it too hard to use aftermarket stuff.
B)Motors. Injectors, etc. Im getting like 12mpg. If I totally baby it on the free ways maybe 15. If I run it hard under 10mpg.
C)Paint. It was a nice silver/grey but now its all faded on top.
D)Suspension. Had it replaced and the bushings. Still not balancing right. Not going to spend that kind of cash again.
E)Interior. Can't do much about the wear and tear and it's way to much to change all that leather.
F)The AC system doesnt filter air right. I think theres mold or something. Its ok sometimes and other times I smell fuel from the injectors.

I keep putting off getting it. I think deep down inside I'm hoping a big deal goes thru so I can justify getting that G35 coupe.
95% chance I'm going to get that accord so I don't have to worry about our sales as much.
I know its just a car but for car nuts and us weird Cali people it makes a statement. Most likely mine will be conservative and sheep like.

-jel
BTW: Has anyone seen the coupe. I heard they are at certain dealers already for promotion. I've been seeing z's for a couple months and they are sweet but I like the coupe better for myself.

if you own your own business, you might as well lease your car. Then you might be able to get what you want.

I think the Q45 first came on the market in 1990, at least from what I can tell from KBB. As I said, if memory serves the first year or two it had a lifetime warranty for the life of the car. I would check my owners manual to see if this is true. I tried to do a search for it on the internet, but couldnt find anything definitively.

As someone else mentioned, if you do own your own buisness, there may be some advantages (tax wise) to lease it through your business for both your business and you personally. Consult a tax adviser though to make sure of this.

I hear you can write it off. Definitively should tak to an accountant about it. Because if it works out, you pretty much get what you want. Definitively better than buying it.

You gets jack out of that Altima SE @ base price. No traction control, 4-wheel disc brake, side airbags, and etc... You need to add a lots onto the Altima to get standard stuffs on the Accords. BTW C&D tests the "heaviest" 7gen Accord V6(EX sedan - 5sp auto with 240hp and 212 ft-lb) and it beats the Altima SE 4sp auto by .3 seconds (0-60 mph) because of the 5th gear. The 6sp Accord V6 EX coupe will be faster than that so if you have around $26K to spend, go for it.

this only applies to jobs that require such transportation. doctors for one can do this because the often on call and need that. you will need to get some tax advise on that.
