So i saw the New 350z today, and im dissapointed

I was at work today,(a supermarket for rich pple), and saw a silver 350z. Man i swore it was a damn new lexus sc430 from the back. o didnt recognize the Z until i squinted and saw the nissan emblem. wats wrong with todays auto manufacturers, the new 2d accord look like a mercedes, and the new Z is a rear clone of a SC430.

when i first saw the new Z i was very impressed. i like the new style with influences from the previous Z cars. and when the guy at the dealership fired it up, it sounded so sweeeeeeet, so much nicer than the g35 it is based on.

i agree with you that some of todays auto designs are a bit lacking in the creativity department. infiniti finally stopped biting mercedes designs and the current lexus LS looks just like a W140 S class to me.

Just like the new Z4, the front looks like the new Miata and the rear looks like the S2K...

I agree that the styling of the Z seems to take a lot of styling cues from Honda, Audi, Porsche... (I think the front looks like an Eclipse from certain angles ). However, it is also an evolution of previous Zs and if you follow the car from concept to finish it makes some sense. Overall it's hard to deny that the car is eye catching and at the very least takes many of the desirable features from other manufacturers and puts them into a modestly sporty package. If anything, it rates really high on the bang-for-the-buck scale.

Ok, that was my feeble attempt to defend styling of the car (don't flame me please ). My 350z arrives sometime in October - can't wait.

ugh, IMO, the Z4 not a BMW by design. its horrible. its all because of BMWs new chief designer Chris Bangle, an ohio native that studied in california. he also influenced the current 7.

Beside earthquakes, traffic jam, strict but useless emission laws, and many Al Gore's friends (tree lovers and huggers), nothing is wrong with California. I don't think I want to move elsewhere...

theres nothing wrong with cali, i like it. i dont know about design schools in cali, i know that there are some good design houses there. his track record already sucks and i dont think he is qualified for the job. maybe another company, just not a german one. bmw designs have been great in the past, but the z4 and the 7 are definately sub par. bangle didnt have anything to do with the current M3 and it looks great, definately new, agressive with a taste of BMW. the only thing bmw on the z4 is the grills and the logo.

yeah, but my question is what was the designer of the 7-series under the influence of
Its not that bad, and i guess i'll get used to it, but at a quick glance it doesn't really say "BMW" to me.

its definately not a bmw design, but the rear end is horrendous. i agree, i will probably also get used to the front, but the trunk is unforgivable. and as long as bangle is in charge, i have a feeling that things are only going to get worse. the next 5 is under devolpment and that will include the v10 m5. can you imagine driving such an awesome piece of $80k machinery that looks like crap.

One of the top design schools in the nation is in californa. The Art Center of Pasadena. Students shave their heads in order to save time in the morning becuase there up all night for weeks trying to make the grades.anywho,

The think i like about the design of the new Z is the front, and the door handles. the thing i dislike the most is, how they didnt keep the flat back from the 300zx and older models. u guyz sed the car lookz like an evolved Z, and in the original prototype it had a flat back. but they changed it to keep up with the times. so its doesnt look too evolved anymore.

i think that the best new car out is goint to be the Mazda RX8. i just love the suicide doors. Im not too happy about the altezza-ish lights in the back, but hey it works.

Gotta love the new Z. With all the companies focused on those crappy suv's that take up too much space and dont move. This is the anti suv. It does look the part of an evolved Datsun and I'd want it except for the weight. I think they could have made it lighter.
My favourite car coming out is the sister car to the Z, the G35 coupe. Similiar weight and performance and styled very nicely IMO.
The new RX is interesting but I dont see it as a jump from the last generation. That car is one of the few that kept getting way better every redesign.

Unfortunately, over 200lbs difference, no? We're looking into getting the G35 coupe.

I saw the new 5 series driving around in Canoga Park near Bob Smith BMW. It was under that black wrap crap. It did seem to take a lot of styling notes from the new 7 series from what I could see.

Why do they drive the prototypes around? They have testing grounds right?

yeah, the use testing grounds, but they also do real world tests in normal settings and extremes like almost arctic to desert. most likely they went to the dealership to fix something or take a break.
