Funny Cars & Dragsters... WOW!!!!

I went to the Keystone Nationals yesterday in Reading, Pa.
I have never seen so many funny cars and dragsters in my life.
I try to attend at least one major drag strip event every year.
If you have never seen today's funny cars and top fuel dragsters. you don't know what you're missing. TV will never give you the experience of the sight and sound of these incredibly fast cars.
Joe Amato, who used to run top fuel dragsters was there yesterday to receive some kind of plaque. He is from the area.
I didn't realize until yesterday that his doctor told him to stop driving the dragsters a few years ago, because the G-Forces(up to 5 G's) were affecting his retina. These cars are reaching nearly 330 MPH in 4.5 seconds in a 1/4 mile!!
Everytime I attend these big meets, I am always amazed at the tremendous power of these fabulous machines.

I saw these earlier this summer in Denver... even at an idle, with me sitting in the top row (50 rows?), I could feel the rumbling. When they take off (with a 7 story hotel right behind the dragstrip), all the echo + sound nearly deafens(sp?) you, shakes you, and is amazingly cool. Nothing like an estimated 6000+ horsepower.

The good thing is that the noise only lasts for 4.5-5 seconds each...

I saw a show about these cars once a while ago... it was pretty amazing. The fuel injectors pump gas into the engine faster than the nozzle at a gas station, and they have to estimate the HP because the engine would literally melt if they put it on a dyno for the 60 seconds required to measure it.

It must be pretty amazing to be standing mear one of those guys when they light it up...
