Autocross, yeehaw.

Drove 120 miles to the Douglas International Raceway (wyoming), which is a dragstrip, to do some autocrossing.

Very fun day, very casual, very laid back, non competitive, genrally fun day. All nine people (welcome to wyoming) there were extremely nice and helpful. Everybody gave everybody rides, tips, and techniques. Great day.

I brought my kuhmo road race tires, put them on the front, and left my drag radials on the back, with extra tire pressure so they wouldn't flex. For those of you that don't know, when road race and drag radials heat up, they are extremely sticky.

My times were between 3:30 and 3:40, so this is an extremely long course with many, many corners.

I was really impressed with how my car handled me, and how I handled my car for that matter. Experienced guys that rode with me complimented me on a few of my techniques (trail braking, lines, where I was looking). To give you an example of what my car is like... I wish I had some onboard video to show, but I can't figure out how I would even mount my video camera.

One guy who drove an older firebird rode with me... he was literally naucious when he got out... He had never felt race tires, let alone 550+hp propelling us from turn to turn and 13.1" brakes (with road race tires hooked to them) slowing us down for the corners. And this went on for three and a half minutes at a time... His face was white and he was woozy... he didn't drive again for the rest of the day.

Considering it was my fourth autocross, I think I did well as I was within three seconds of the top two guys' best run. My best run was 3rd best, not that we were competing, but hey.

I found a nice example of how to mount a camera in your car a little while ago.
